An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for much of the state. The forecast shows dangerously low temperatures this week, at times falling below -15 degrees. For this reason, load control is possible as demand for electricity is expected to spike. This week, we urge electric co-op members to keep an eye out for peak alerts from their co-op and, when safely possible, to reduce their electricity usage early in the morning and late at night when demand is highest.
Here are a few simple ways to reduce your usage:
❄️ Lower your thermostat by one or two degrees
❄️ Limit the use of space heaters and unplug them when you're not in the room
❄️ Wait until the late morning or afternoon to do laundry or run the dishwasher
❄️ Unplug appliances and electronics you're not currently using
By shifting your usage, you will help us relieve stress on the power grid and prevent potential energy shortfalls.
