It was a busy week! We had the opportunity to work with Travis County STAR Flight to co-host a special “Fireline & Hoist” training in Round Mountain, where responders not only from Blanco County but all over the region attended to work side by side with STAR Flight personnel and train together on every type of specialty rescue equipment as well as firefighting equipment and emergency procedures, better preparing everyone to work together on high risk/low frequency types of incidents. Thanks to everyone who attended, we look forward to the next one!

Clarification:

This afternoon, a photo was taken of one of our Community Paramedic vehicles at a pharmacy drive-thru in Bulverde, showing a passenger in the vehicle. The post suggested the vehicle was being used for personal purposes. We want to clarify the situation.

Our Community Paramedic program provides essential services to some of the most vulnerable members of our community—helping keep them safe, healthy, and out of the hospital. One of these services includes assisting patients with obtaining necessary prescription medications.

In this case, the Community Paramedic was waiting to pick up critically needed medication on behalf of a patient who was unable to do so themselves. The medication was being delivered directly to that patient in Blanco County.

The passenger in the vehicle is a Qualified Mental Health Professional and an integral part of our Community Paramedic team. They work alongside our paramedics to deliver mental health services in the field during times of crisis and assist with follow-up care.

Our Community Paramedic program continues to make a meaningful impact in our community. If you would like to learn more, we are happy to arrange an opportunity to speak with one of our team members.

As always, you are welcome to contact our administration at 830-833-5239 and a member of our command staff will answer any questions.

Have a safe weekend.

Yesterday was a tough day as we said our final goodbyes to Sergeant Douglas Bledsoe of the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office. We received this photo today and it captures a really special moment, all of our on-duty personnel were able to attend and pay their final respects as we laid Doug to rest.

This was made possible thanks to Comal County ESD No. 3 (Canyon Lake Fire / EMS) and North Hays County Emergency Medical Services who graciously backfilled Blanco County with Fire & EMS units and covered all of our calls during the services, while Marble Falls Area EMS was on standby and ready to send more. Thanks to these agencies for helping us out, we appreciate you!

To the 31 personnel we had working yesterday, thanks for all you do each and every day, but thanks for making yesterday even more special.

Most importantly, we want to thank the family for their hospitality and allowing us to be a part of such a special day for Doug. We will always be here for you!

Douglas Lee “Doug” Bledsoe, 65, was born on September 3, 1960, in Abilene, Texas, to Charles Lee Bledsoe and Martha Lee Oakes Bledsoe. He passed away on February 23rd, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Doug graduated from Wylie High School in Abilene, TX in 1979. In the early 1980s, he moved to Blanco, where he managed apartments alongside his mother. Hard work was central to his life, always ready to tackle any project- whether carpentry or building homes in the Blanco community. Doug served as a member of the Blanco Volunteer Fire Department before completing the Police Academy and becoming an officer for the City of Blanco. He later served with the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office and worked at Cox Paving as their Safety Officer. Ultimately, Doug felt most called to serve through the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office. He proudly served the City of Blanco Police Department and the Blanco County Sheriff’s office for 33 years and one month.

Doug was a loving Son, Brother, Husband, Father, and Gramps. His family was his greatest pride and the joy that inspired his lifelong service. Doug was a devoted husband to Lydia, his beloved wife of 38 years. Their marriage was a testament to family, faithfulness, loyalty, partnership, and enduring love, always side by side.

Doug and Lydia were members of Trinity Lutheran Church, where they served devotedly and formed lifelong friendships. Faith and community were central to their lives. Doug also worked alongside the Blanco Methodist Church
Toys for Tots program. For many years, he helped gather donations, shop for, and wrap toys to be given to the children of Blanco. He also ran security for Vacation Bible School at Trinity Lutheran Church of Blanco. Doug’s deep enthusiasm for life and service reflected the values of hard work, honesty, and kindness that defined him.

Doug spent summers fishing and water skiing at his Nenaw’s cabin on Lake Brownwood, a tradition he continued with his own family. He had a great sense of humor, and his warmhearted presence was memorable to many. You might have known Doug by one of many names, such as Sarg, Richard, Dougie Fresh, Leroy, Grumpy Gramps, Douglito, Dooglas, or Chicken Legs. Each name carries a story, and a reminder of the joy he brought to others. Doug will be remembered for his unwavering service to the community, and the deep love he had for his family. Though Doug’s watch has ended, the legacy will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Cox Bledsoe, his children, Amy Renee’, Curtis Rust (Ashley), Kymberly Bledsoe Garza (Seth), and his grandchildren, Sevren (Jonnalynn), Coryne, Kacen, Everly, Caden, Adalynn, Stone, Slaten, and his Goddaughter Chace. Doug is also survived by his twin brother, Charlie Bledsoe; his sisters, Joyce Eastman and Janet Bledsoe; his stepmother, Eidie Bledsoe, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Lee Bledsoe, and his mother, Martha Lee Oakes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Blanco on March 7th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Cox Cemetery. The family invites all who attend to join them for lunch following the interment at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blanco, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Program, Blanco, Texas.
We all carry different ideas about love, but true love begins with God. In Jesus, we see love made visible, and we learn how to love one another. As we remember Doug’s life and legacy, we turn our hearts to the Lord in prayer:

God,
I’m weary. Not giving up hope, just tired. Breathe fresh hope into me. Rebuild what feels worn down.
Help me to see progress even if it’s small. Encourage my heart today.
Amen

🚨 IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY UPDATE FROM THE FIRE MARSHAL’S OFFICE 🚨

Since the burn ban was lifted, local fire departments have already responded to multiple out-of-control burns, resulting in approximately 130 acres burned in our area.

These conditions are dangerous. Fuels remain extremely dry, and even small “controlled” burns are escaping quickly and becoming fast-moving wildfires.

👉 Despite the burn ban being OFF, the Fire Marshal is STRONGLY DISCOURAGING ALL CONTROLLED BURNING at this time.

The severity of current conditions is underscored by the fact that a firefighting helicopter had to be deployed to assist with suppression efforts — an extremely unusual measure for this time of year.

🌬️ High winds are expected this weekend, and remember:

* Burning is NOT permitted when sustained winds exceed 23 mph

* Burning is NOT permitted during a Red Flag Warning

* Never leave a burn unattended until it is completely extinguished

🚒 Fire resources are already being strained. One careless burn can put homes, firefighters, and lives at risk.

Please take this warning seriously and postpone any burning activities until conditions significantly improve.

We are so thankful to We Are Blood and Capital Area of Texas Regional Advisory Council for helping us carry Whole Blood in Blanco County!

Our blood bank is in critical need of blood donations to replenish the supply after the storm, so if you can find the time please consider donating as soon as possible!

We Are Blood will re-open all donor centers at noon on Tuesday with plenty of available appointments and a critical need for blood donations, especially from our O type and platelet donors. After two days of center closures and blood drive cancellations, hundreds of needed donations have been lost. Can you help our community recover? Book an appointment this week as we return to regular hours of operation and receive a free small ThunderCloud Subs for helping out.

While the weather is improving and we’re all happy to see some sunshine ☀️, road conditions remain hazardous. Maintenance efforts have focused on the main highways to facilitate emergency responses, but conditions on RM/FM roads and other roadways remain poor.

Please continue to stay warm, stay home, and remain off the roadways if at all possible. There’s something on Netflix calling your name today 🙂
