I do not think people outside politics fully understand how insane what Virginia Democrats did actually was. They redrew the map so that five congressional districts effectively originate in Fairfax, which is packed with left wing government workers, and then stretch outward across the state like tentacles!

My statement on the Virginia Supreme Court Ruling.

Today, the Supreme Court of Virginia reaffirmed a simple but essential principle: in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Constitution of Virginia still matters. The Court correctly recognized that constitutional safeguards are not optional hurdles to be ignored when politically inconvenient. Virginia’s amendment process was intentionally designed to be deliberate, transparent, and accountable to the people through an intervening election. Those protections exist for a reason: because our Constitution is meant to endure beyond temporary passions or partisan advantage.

This ruling is not about Republicans or Democrats. It is about preserving the integrity of our constitutional system and protecting the voice of every Virginian. The Court made clear that no side gets to shortcut the rules simply because they believe the outcome justifies the process. That is an important precedent for the future of the Commonwealth.

Virginia voters overwhelmingly supported anti-gerrymandering reforms in 2020 because they were tired of politicians choosing their voters instead of voters choosing their representatives. A congressional map that attempts to engineer a 10-1 outcome in a politically competitive Commonwealth undermines public confidence and weakens faith in representative government itself.

I commend the Court for upholding the rule of law, defending constitutional order, and reminding all of us that fairness in representation and fidelity to the Constitution are not mutually exclusive….they are inseparable.
