Saturday Morning Story Hour, August 29, 2026 was all about book worms! We read stories and had a bit of musical noise, trying out the new kids musical instruments. Had a great time. Join us every Saturday at 10AM of stories, crafts and a snack.

OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL STUDENTS - PUBLIC & HOMESCHOOLED

Letters About Literature in Illinois is a statewide reading and writing promotion that dovetails with state and national learning standards. Students in grades 4 – 12 are invited to read a book of their choice, reflect on it, and write a personal letter to its author explaining the impact their work had on them.

Students can enter individually, through their school, the local public library, or youth organizations. There are three writing levels based on the student’s grade in school:
Level I - Grades 4 - 6
Level II - Grade 7 & 8
Level III - Grades 9 - 12

One winning letter is selected per level. Winners receive a cash prize and a plaque from the Illinois Secretary of State at an awards ceremony. Teachers of the winners receive a certificate and a cash prize for the school to purchase books for the school library.

Winners will be formally announced in May. Runners Up from each Level receive certificates mailed in time for end of school year awards ceremonies.

Enter by December 15, 2026

Written submissions will be accepted for all ages until the annual entry deadline of December 15. A completed entry form must be attached to each entry. Entries can be submitted via US Mail or Email.

Saturday Morning Story Hour August 15, 2026, was Burger Saturday. Pat read to the kids and then we made a burger craft too bad they weren't the real thing! The children enjoyed themselves - had a snack and a bit of computer time. Thanks to everyone that participated.

I read this book at least 10 years ago and reread it in order to give a current review and it was just as good the second time! You could compare it to Harry Potter or Game of Thrones, but as much as I loved those books, Rothfuss carries you into another world as if you are there, not just reading about it. Don't be put off by the size of the story, a long book is one to slowly enjoy. My only regret is he is taking too long to finish the third book. If you like historical fiction you should enjoy this even though it is a fantasy. Jody Little

Library Board Vacancy

There is a vacancy on the library board due to the resignation of
a trustee on the Blandinsville–Hire Library Board of Trustees. If
you are interested in being appointed to fill this position, please
notify Kris Thrapp, Blandinsville–Hire Library Board of Trustees
President at 309-331-4541 ASAP. The appointment will be
made at a board meeting, and the appointee will serve for the
time spanning from the appointment until the next general
election in April 2027.

On the last day of the Summer Reading Program-Kindness 101 we chalked the walk and made a kindness flower with our guest reader Diane Sieving, from the "girl scouts of central Illinois". Thanks to everyone who participated this summer and helped to spread a little kindness in the community. Anyone can come and chalk the walk, paint some kindness rocks for the "rock garden" and for those who still have rocks to finish, stop by and we will get them added to the garden. Please stop by the library as we have many great books - so keep on reading! Till next summer.
