Happy ! This is a Pseudodechenella rowi, one of the rarest trilobite species that we find at Penn Dixie. Finding a specimen this complete and intact is extremely rare and nothing short of spectacular!

Fossil Fun Fact: Pseudodechenella belong to a group of trilobites that lived all the way until the Permian Extinction; the largest mass extinction in Earth's history.

Kudos to Mike Meacher of Stormbed Paleontological for finding and prepping this masterpiece! 🔥⛏

Happy from this epic Bellacartwrightia trilobite with a Carpoid association directly above it! This is one of only 6 known Carpoid specimens that have been found at Penn Dixie since the original big discovery back in April of 2023! Both found and prepped out by Alasdair Gilfillan, this one-of-a-kind find is extremely rare and awesome! 🔥

It's always a treat when two of our founding figures visit! Pictured are Dr. Gordon Baird (SUNY Fredonia) and Dr. Carlton Brett (University of Cincinnati) alongside Penn Dixie Executive Director Dr. Phil Stokes during a recent field trip to Penn Dixie for college students.

Dr. Baird and Dr. Brett were instrumental in making Penn Dixie happen. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, they published a series of scientific articles describing the abundant fossils and rich geological history of the land we now know as Penn Dixie Fossil Park & Nature Reserve. Then, in the 1990s, they worked with local advocates to urge officials to permanently preserve the land and its fossils for future generations. We thank Dr. Baird and Dr. Brett for their vision and friendship!
