Abner “Ab” Ferguson (banjo) and cousin Tom Douglas (fiddle) played what we now call bluegrass music all over the mountain and Sequatchie Valley. He and his wife Sara hosted dances at their house constantly. The Coke Ovens in Dunlap was also a frequented place they would play and festivals are still being held to this day. There is one scheduled this October 3rd if this inspires you to check out your heritage. This type of music was what was played during the Civil War and so it is a part of your American heritage.

The son of Tom Douglas, Fiddling Bob, became a well-known fiddler and played at the Grand Ole Opry at the age of 100! In these videos, some of the songs were ones that Ab and Tom were playing so it is a chance to step back in time.

I’m posting high school yearbook photos. Help me identify all of the Mountain folks. They will not be alphabetical. Couldn’t get it to cooperate.
