We know legal wording on ballots can be confusing.

In simple terms:

We are asking to REPLACE the Ambulance portion of your property/real estate tax with a 1/2 Cent Sales tax.

If this proposition passes, you will see no ambulance tax levy on your property/real estate tax bill.

With extreme heat affecting much of Missouri, we encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions to stay safe.

💧 Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
☀️ Limit your time outdoors whenever possible, especially during the hottest part of the day.
🧢 If you must work or spend time outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and pay close attention to how your body is responding.

Know the warning signs of heat-related illness:
• Heavy sweating, muscle cramps, dizziness, nausea, or weakness can be early signs of heat exhaustion.
• If sweating suddenly stops, confusion develops, your body temperature becomes very high, or someone loses consciousness, this may be a medical emergency. Move the person to a cooler location and call 911 immediately.

Please check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone without reliable air conditioning. A simple phone call or visit could make all the difference.

Stay safe, stay cool, and look out for one another.

‼️We’re all in this together, Missouri!
⚠️Extreme Heat Warning today and Monday. The heat index is expected to climb to 110 and higher for almost all of Missouri this afternoon and again on Monday afternoon.
✅Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
✅Drink plenty of water, sports drinks, or natural fruit juices to stay hydrated. ✅Avoid alcohol and beverages that contain caffeine as these tend to be dehydrating.
✅If outdoor activity is unavoidable, take plenty of breaks in the shade, or in an air conditioned environment away from the heat.

Thoughts and prayers for the Cape Girardeau Fire Department and the family. Greg was an inspiration to a ton of folks in this area.

It is with profound sadness that the Southeast Missouri Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1084, announces the passing of Retired Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hecht.

Greg dedicated his life to serving the citizens of Cape Girardeau County and Southeast Missouri. Throughout his distinguished career, he served alongside many of us as a Firefighter, Fire Captain, Training Officer, Battalion Chief, and Deputy Fire Chief. More importantly, Greg was a friend, mentor, and leader who positively impacted countless firefighters throughout his career. His knowledge, professionalism, and commitment to the fire service helped shape generations of firefighters and left a lasting legacy within all of our departments.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Southeast Missouri Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1084, we extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Greg's family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

As we remember and celebrate Greg's life, we ask that you keep his family, his friends, and our entire fire service family in your thoughts and prayers. His dedication to the fire service, unwavering leadership, and commitment to helping others will never be forgotten.
