Kurt Neubauer is a resident of a group home in the city of Bloomer. Kurt Neubauer left the facility on 08/30/2026 and was last seen around 2:30 p.m. He was wearing a grey shirt, blue jeans, and grey shoes. He has multiple medical conditions that affect his cognitive abilities. If located or you have any information please contact Chippewa County Dispatch 715-726-7701 option #1 and request to speak to the Bloomer Officer. Thank you for any and all assistance.

We are very grateful for the community’s continued participation in our medication collection program. The amount of unused and unwanted medication being placed in the drug collection box at the Police Department has been greatly appreciated.
Recently, we have noticed an increase in sharps (needles) and liquid medications being placed in the collection box. Please be mindful of what items are accepted and what items should not be placed in the box.
For everyone’s safety, please refer to the picture below for a clear guide on what can and cannot be placed in the medication collection box.

Today marks 24 years since Bloomer Native Melissa “Missy” Schmidt lost her life in the line of duty. She is gone but will never be forgotten. There is a memorial in front of the Police Department in her honor and the flag flys day and night in remembrance. To her family, friends and brothers and sisters in blue, we are thinking of you all today.

MINNEAPOLIS POLICE DEPARTMENT
DIED: August 1, 2002

Officer Melissa Schmidt was shot and killed after she and her partner responded to a call shortly after 7:00 pm reporting a woman with a gun at a public housing complex.

Contact was made with the 60-year-old female suspect and while the officers were questioning her, she said she needed to go to the bathroom. Officer Schmidt escorted the woman to the public restroom in the lobby of the building. While in the restroom, the woman produced a handgun and opened fire, striking Officer Schmidt in the abdomen below her vest. Officer Schmidt was able to return fire and killed the suspect.

Officer Schmidt was a United States Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Minneapolis Police Department for over 6 years. She was assigned to the Public Housing Unit. Officer Schmidt is survived by her parents and brother.

UPDATE: LOCATED
The Barron County Sheriff's Department is attempting to locate Aiden Smith. He was last seen walking on County Road AA just south of New Auburn in Chippewa County. Last known clothing description was black shorts light blue t-shirt with labyrinth characters on it. We would like to check his welfare.

He has been located.
