The police department would like to make people aware that if you receive a message on Messenger that says “Hello how are you doing?”, it is more likely a scam. Most often the sender is a name you know, but their Facebook account has been hacked. Do not respond to the message. Call the person and make sure it was them. If not, let them know they need to change their password on Facebook.

The Bloomfield Police Department would like to alert everyone to a scam that has been attempted in Bloomfield. A caller identifies themselves as a grandchild in need of money because of an arrest. Another caller identifies themselves as a police officer and a third caller identifies themselves as a lawyer for the grandchild. This is all in an attempt to get money sent. No matter who anyone says they are on the phone, DO NOT give them any information or numbers to anything. No gift cards or account information. ALWAYS call family to check if it’s true or not. It will always be a lie. If you have any questions call Bryan. For those that have relatives that don’t see this on Facebook, talk to family members to ensure they understand.
