💧🐄 WE HAVE WATER! — PROJECT COMPLETE! 🌱🎉

What started with moving dirt is now a completed conservation system!

Greene County SWCD is excited to celebrate the completion of our FIRST Pasture Roots Revival project!

Over the course of this project, the producer installed:

💧 Spring development to utilize an existing water source
🐄 Permanent livestock watering facilities providing reliable water access
🚜 Heavy Use Area Protection pads around the watering areas to reduce mud, erosion, and soil disturbance
🌱 Three grazing paddocks to allow cattle to rotate while giving forage time to rest and recover
🐮 A designated cattle walkway to help move livestock efficiently between paddocks and watering areas

And today…the proof is in the tank — WE HAVE WATER! 💦

This project is a great example of what Pasture Roots Revival was created to accomplish: putting practical conservation on the ground that works for the producer while improving grazing management, protecting soil, reducing runoff, and supporting better water quality.

Seeing our first project go from a conservation plan on paper to a working system on the farm is pretty exciting — and we’re just getting started! 🌱

A huge thank you to our participating landowner and everyone who helped make this first project a success.

Another exciting day of progress for our Pasture Roots Revival – CWI Rotational Grazing Project!

Yesterday, the watering tanks and heavy-use area pads were placed, and today crews began developing the natural spring — and we have water! 💦

The spring is being developed to capture and direct this natural water source into the livestock watering system. Once complete, it will help provide cattle with a reliable water source while supporting better grazing management and reducing pressure on sensitive areas.

This project will also allow the landowner to rotate cattle between three different paddocks, helping improve pasture utilization, soil health, and overall conservation on the farm. 🌱🐂

It’s pretty exciting to watch all the pieces come together — from the heavy-use pads and tanks to the spring development and new paddocks.

Conservation on the ground and water where it’s needed! 💧🌱🐄

🌱🚜 Pasture Roots Revival – Progress in Action! 💧🐄

Our first Pasture Roots Revival project is really starting to take shape!

Today, the permanent livestock watering tanks and heavy use area protection pads were placed, bringing this producer another step closer to a fully functioning rotational grazing system.

The landowner has also been busy developing three separate paddocks and a designated cattle walkway. Once complete, the cattle will be rotated between the three paddocks rather than continuously grazing the same area. This allows forage time to rest and recover, improves pasture utilization, and helps maintain healthier soils and stronger forage stands.

💧 Tomorrow, work continues with excavation for the spring development, which will supply water to the permanent watering system.

When it’s all put together, this project will include:
• Spring development
• Permanent livestock watering facilities
• Heavy use area protection pads
• Three rotational grazing paddocks
• A designated cattle walkway

These practices all work together—providing livestock with reliable water while helping reduce muddy high-traffic areas, erosion and runoff, and allowing pastures the recovery time they need.

This is exactly what Pasture Roots Revival is about: helping local producers put conservation on the ground in ways that benefit their livestock, their operation, their soil, and our water resources. 🌱💧
