Blooming Prairie City Ordinance on grass and w**ds:

91.01 WEEDS AND COMMON GRASSES

(1) Any w**ds or common grass, whether noxious as defined by law or not, growing upon any lot or parcel of land outside the traveled portion of any street or alley in the city to a greater height than
six inches or which have gone or about to go to seed are a nuisance. The owner and the occupant shall abate or prevent the nuisance on the property and on land outside the traveled portion of the street or alley abutting on the property.

(2) When the owner and occupant permit a w**d or common grass nuisance to exist in violation of division (A) above, the W**d Inspector shall serve notice upon the owner of the property if
he or she resides in the municipality and can be found or upon the occupant in other cases, by registered or certified mail or by personal service, ordering the owner or occupant to have the w**ds cut and removed within ten days after receipt of the notice and also stating that, in case of non-compliance, the work will be done by the Street Commissioner at the expense of the owner and that if unpaid, the charge for the work will be made a special assessment against the property concerned. When no owner,
occupant or agent of the owner or occupant can be found, the provision for notice shall not apply.

(3) If the owner or occupant fails to comply with the notice within ten days after receipt, or if no owner, occupant or agent of the owner can be found, the Street Commissioner shall cut and remove
the w**ds or common grass. He or she should keep a record showing the cost of the work attributable to each separate lot and parcel and shall deliver the information to the city Administrator-Clerk.

May 10th–16th, 2026, marks National Police Week — a time of solemn remembrance and heartfelt appreciation for the men and women who serve their communities with courage, integrity, and compassion every day.

Tonight, during the Blooming Prairie City Council meeting, Chief Skillestad recognized members of the Blooming Prairie Police Department with Lifesaving Awards and Lifesaving Pins for their actions and commitment to protecting the lives of others.

Officer Travis Belich was awarded a Lifesaving Award and Lifesaving Pin for saving 2 lives while serving as a Blooming Prairie Police Officer.

Officer Brad Busho was awarded a Lifesaving Pin for saving 2 lives while serving as a Blooming Prairie Police Officer.

Officer Dan Peach was awarded a Lifesaving Pin for saving 5 lives while serving as a Blooming Prairie Police Officer.

Chief Skillestad was awarded a Lifesaving Pin for saving 5 lives while serving as a Blooming Prairie Police Officer.

During National Police Week, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, recognize those who continue to serve, and thank all law enforcement officers across the country for their unwavering commitment to keeping our communities safe.

April is distracted driving awareness month. There is extra enforcement throughout the entire State of Minnesota this month, including Blooming Prairie.

Distractions of any kind are all potentially deadly:

Visual distraction - looking away from the road.

Physical distraction - taking your hands off the wheel to do something else.

Cognitive distraction - being lost in thought.

Using electronic devices combines all of these elements - like texting or snapchatting while driving.

The Exchange Club of Steele County conducted their Peace Officer of the Year program Friday morning, Feb. 20, at the VFW in Owatonna. Blooming Prairie Patrol Officer Brad Busho was recognized for his work and accomplishments while being with the Blooming Prairie Police Department. Busho holds the plaque presented to him as he is pictured with family and colleagues.

** Dog License Reminder **

New year, new license.

Starting in 2026, the City of Blooming Prairie has a lifetime license for dogs within the City of Blooming Prairie. A one-time fee of $25 will license your dog for its lifetime. Please bring proof of Rabies vaccination to register your dog. It is your responsibility to vaccinate your dog and maintain rabies vaccination records for the life of your pet.
