FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

* WHAT... Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

* WHERE... Portions of northern New York, including the following counties, Essex and Vermont, including the following counties, Addison, Rutland, Windsor, and Orange.

* WHEN... Through this evening.

* IMPACTS... Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Up to 2 inches or rainfall have already fallen Tuesday through Wednesday morning in portions of Vermont. An additional 1-3 inches of rain is expected through Thursday morning in south central Vermont along with the eastern slopes of the Adirondacks in Essex County NY. Locally higher amounts will be possible along the spine of the southern Green Mountains.

* At 854 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Chipman to near Higley Flow State Park to Pitcairn, moving east at 60 mph.

HAZARD... 70 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.

IMPACT... Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

* WHAT... Heat index values between 95 and 104 expected.

* WHERE... Portions of northern New York and most of central and northern Vermont, including the Northeast Kingdom.

* WHEN... From noon Wednesday to 7 PM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS... Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... The highest heat index values will occur between 1 PM and 5 PM daily from Wednesday through Friday.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
