The City of DeKalb regrets to inform the community of the tragic passing of one of our firefighter/paramedics on Monday, April 6, 2026. Our focus remains on supporting the firefighter’s family, friends, and our department members during this difficult time.

The DeKalb Fire Department sincerely appreciates the support and understanding of the community. Funeral arrangements are pending. Please respect the privacy of the family as they navigate this difficult time.

Last night three of our newest members were sworn in at our district trustee meeting. A big congratulations to all three as they pursue their career with the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District. Welcome Nicholas Paveza who will be on Gold shift, Donald Craft who will be on Black shift and Kyle O’Connor who will be on Red shift. Congrats and welcome brothers!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bloomingdale Fire Protection District Trustee Tim Deutschle. Tim served as a district trustee since 2007.

Tim started his career with the Addison Fire Protection District in 1971 and retired in 2004 after having served as the fire chief for over 12 years.

Tim was committed to always providing us with the best medical equipment, ambulances, fire apparatus and fire stations possible; to ensure we were always ready to serve our community.

Thank you for you have done for the District Trustee Deutschle. We’ll take it from here.

This is both disgraceful and shameful. Do better Mayor John Laesch!

The Bloomingdale Professional Firefighters Association - Local 3272, stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Aurora. This will not only endanger firefighter safety, but it will also endanger the citizens of Aurora.

Mayor John Laesch’s socialist agenda is a threat to public service and deeply misguided. Do better!
