Extreme Heat Warning 🌡️

Bloomingdale Fire Department is sharing this important message from Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA).

Dangerous heat is expected, and high temperatures combined with humidity can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses.

Please remember to:
☀️ Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
🏠 Limit time outdoors, especially during the hottest part of the day.
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
❄️ Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas.
👶 Check on children, older adults, neighbors, and pets.
🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
If you experience dizziness, confusion, nausea, or stop sweating in the heat, seek medical attention immediately.

Yesterday, July 27, the Bloomingdale Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy fire conditions involving the front of the residence and quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack to bring the incident under control.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all personnel on scene, the fire was contained and extinguished. Crews remained on scene conducting overhaul operations to ensure all remaining hot spots were extinguished.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Pooler Fire-Rescue for their rapid response and mutual aid assistance. Strong partnerships with our neighboring departments play a vital role in protecting our communities.
As always, we remind everyone to ensure working smoke alarms are installed and tested monthly, and to have a home fire escape plan that everyone in the household knows.

Help Us Reunite a Loved One with Their Family

An urn containing the cremated remains of a loved one was unfortunately delivered to the wrong address.

We are hoping to help reunite this family member with their proper resting place. If you recognize this urn or have any information that may help identify the intended recipient or family, please contact the Bloomingdale Police Department.

The urn is currently being safely held by the Bloomingdale Police Department until it can be returned to the appropriate family.

🚁 Training Through Partnership 🚁

Today, the Bloomingdale Fire Department was proud to assist Chatham Emergency Services during their EMT class by supporting a Landing Zone (LZ) Operations training presented by the outstanding crew from LifeStar Georgia Air Ambulance!

Participants received hands-on instruction covering helicopter safety, landing zone selection and setup, aircraft approach and departure procedures, patient loading considerations, and effective communication between ground crews and flight personnel.

Opportunities like these strengthen the partnership between our agencies and help ensure we are prepared to provide the safest and highest level of care for our community when air medical transport is needed.

A special thank you to LifeStar for sharing their expertise and to Chatham Emergency Services for the opportunity to train together. Working together makes all of us better.

🚧 ROADWAY REOPENED 🚧
Cypress Street has reopened between U.S. Highway 80 and East Main Street.

The tree has been cleared, and the roadway is now open to normal traffic.

Cypress Street is currently closed from U.S. Highway 80 to East Main Street due to a tree down on a power line.

🚧 Please avoid the area and use alternate routes until the roadway can be safely reopened. Utility crews have been notified and are responding.
