Village Statement Regarding Flock Camera System Review

Posted on August 21, 2026
For Immediate Release

In response to recent concerns regarding the use of Flock cameras, the Village of Bloomingdale initiated an internal audit of the Bloomingdale Police Department’s use of the camera system. The Village took this action to ensure that these systems are being used appropriately, consistent with Village policies, department procedures, and applicable laws.
As part of that review, the Village identified information indicating that a law enforcement officer allegedly used department technology systems for a purpose that was not authorized by the Village. The Village takes the appropriate use of law enforcement technology and public safety resources extremely seriously. Upon becoming aware of the alleged unauthorized use, the Village immediately placed the officer involved on administrative leave while the Village conducts its internal investigation. The matter has also been shared with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
The Village believes the circumstances identified to date represent an isolated incident and will conduct a comprehensive review of the Police Department’s policies, procedures, training, and implement any necessary corrective measures, and evaluate additional steps to ensure appropriate accountability and safeguards are in place.
The Village of Bloomingdale remains committed to transparency, accountability, and maintaining the public’s trust. Because the matter remains under review by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, there are limitations on the information the Village can publicly release at this time. The Village will provide additional information when it is appropriate and legally permissible to do so.
Please contact Director of Public Safety Frank Giammarese at 630-529-5701 with any questions.

As work continues on Fairfield Way, residents in the surrounding area may notice a temporary increase in construction-related vehicles parking on nearby side streets over the next few weeks.

Weather permitting, the contractor is scheduled to pave the surface layer of Fairfield Way on Monday and Tuesday next week. Once the surface paving is complete, crews will begin sod placement and watering.

During this work, parking will need to shift from Fairfield Way to nearby streets. Once the sod watering period is complete, construction vehicles will be able to return to parking on Fairfield Way while the remaining work is finished.

The Village continues to coordinate with the contractors to help minimize impacts on surrounding neighborhoods and appreciates residents’ patience as this project moves toward completion.

Public Works has completed the special branch collection following previous severe weather events and is no longer collecting private storm damage. Crews will now focus on removing damaged parkway trees and stumps remaining from previous storms, as well as resuming regular operations and projects that were put on hold due to multiple storm responses.
Residents should dispose of branches and other landscape waste through their regular refuse service with SBC Waste Solutions or consider using a private contractor for larger branches.
As a reminder, the Village’s next scheduled branch collection will begin Monday, October 19.

Don’t Be That Neighbor! It’s 8/11, which makes today the perfect day for a reminder to call 811 before you dig! Planning an outdoor project? Before you dig, remember to contact JULIE by calling 811 or submitting a request online. It’s a free and important step that helps prevent damage to underground utilities and keeps your project, and your neighborhood, safe. A quick call before you dig can save you from becoming that neighbor. Give it a watch, your neighbors (and the underground utilities) will thank you!
