CCSD93’s weeklong STEAM Camp concluded today. District teachers led campers entering grades 2-8 through challenges especially focused on engineering and architecture. Each grade tackled a unique project ranging from building storm-resistant tents, to constructing arch and suspension bridges, to engineering earthquake-proof structures, to planning classrooms of the future and even creating entire cities.

Students used available materials and adapted their designs to meet the challenge at hand, practicing problem-solving and perseverance. Daily puzzles and math games from the DuPage Regional Office of Education added even more fun and critical thinking. Find out more here!

Before school got out, Western Trails' Innovation Center was filled with figures from across history and professions as 3rd graders hosted their Living Museum after learning all about biographies. Children’s television pioneer Fred Rogers, astronaut Kalpana Chawla, Olympian Michelle Kwan, wrestler and actor Dwayne Johnson, artist Frida Kahlo and many more were brought to life by students who researched a famous person, wrote a script from their perspective and performed it in costume for parents and peers. Way to go, Wildcats!

Cloverdale 5th graders have accomplished so much during their elementary years, and now they can add published author to the list! After a year of journaling, students selected a favorite piece, refined it with help from parent volunteers, added creative illustrations and turned it into a hardcover book, generously subsidized by the school’s PTA. This week, they proudly shared their work with peers, parents, D93 staff and community members with a Publishing Party in the Innovation Center!
