School’s out, and a new chapter begins! 5th graders across CCSD93 have made one last trip through their elementary school halls and are preparing to head off to middle school in 2026-27 after years of growing, learning and making memories. These Heritage Lakes students were among those who enjoyed special clap-out celebrations today. Happy summer to all!

Students across CCSD93 are participating in Step-Up Day today, an opportunity to become familiar with the schools, classrooms and educators they’ll experience next school year. Fifth graders are visiting their future middle schools, while students in other grades are spending time meeting the teaching teams and exploring the learning spaces they’ll soon call their own. A few weeks ago, preschool students also stepped up to their future elementary kindergarten classrooms. These experiences help ensure students feel confident, comfortable and ready to begin learning on the first day of the 2026-27 school year!

While the school year is almost over, students remained busy and engaged across the district this past week, including at Western Trails, where they explored a variety of unique learning opportunities:

• Figures from history, entertainment, sports, and beyond filled the Innovation Center as 3rd graders hosted their Living Museum after learning about biographies. Inventor Thomas Edison, architect Zaha Hadid, athlete Cristiano Ronaldo, emancipator Harriet Tubman and many others were brought to life by students who researched a famous person, wrote a script from that person's perspective and performed in costume for guests!

• As part of their economics unit, 4th graders hosted a Business Bazaar, selling handmade items to peers and staff for $1-$3. Products included slime, bracelets, books and more. Through the experience, students explored important financial literacy concepts, including the factors that influence spending choices and how profits reward and influence sellers in a marketplace!

• 5th graders rotated through a variety of STEM stations that challenged them to apply their knowledge of physics to build structures that met specific objectives. Following the engineering design process, students identified a problem, imagined possible solutions, planned their approach, created and tested their designs and improved upon them based on the results!

This week, Carol Stream School 4th graders explored electricity through Electrifying Energy, a special activity from the Regional Office of Education (ROE). Students investigated simple circuits and electrical energy firsthand using snap circuits, circuit mazes, energy balls and energy sticks! These engaging activities supported grade level science standards by helping students understand how energy flows and what it takes to complete a circuit.
