Timing aside, please consider alternatives for the next couple days. Dropping students off a block west near the Constitution Trail is one solution of several. There are many “straight shot” walking options that are only a block away.

Illinois 9 [Empire Street] will be completely closed from Towanda Avenue to Colton Avenue near the north side of Bloomington High School on Sept. 3 and 4.

The co-hosted Data Center Forum “Night Class” was extremely informative, well attended by the community, and expertly moderated by Susan Saunders-Spring…hats off to the City and Town. It was great to see my council colleagues, our counterparts in Normal, both mayors, and so many Twin City leaders in attendance. This place is special, let’s continue to do the work to keep it that way!

Folks, I hate to bearer of bad news but more precipitation is headed our way. Flood Watch starts at 1:00. To the extent you can prepare basements, tarps, etc. please do, and as always, stay safe.

Flood Watch from 1 pm - 1 am. 😢

One thing the weather couldn’t stop last week was the Bloomington Public Library, Book-Mobile! It made the regular rounds in the rain and even joined forces with the Ward 4-Mobile to deliver books, films, and music to folks who needed them. It was a timely reminder that when it rains for days and the power is out, a book is the perfect remedy! My extreme thanks to State Representative Sharon Chung, Trustee Dianne Hollister, and Director Jeanne Hamilton for joining us and recommending some pre-Halloween reads!

🌧️ CLEANING UP AFTER THE STORMS? HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you’re dealing with flooding or other damage from this week’s storms, the City is providing some additional help with cleanup.

Residents normally receive one bucket of curbside bulk collection at no charge each week, with a $30 fee for each additional bucket. For bulk materials resulting from documented storm or flood damage, the City will waive those additional $30 bucket fees.

To qualify, report your storm or flood damage through the myBloomington online portal - https://www.bloomingtonil.gov/community/report-a-concern or downloading the myBloomington mobile app.

ONLY REPORTED DAMAGE THROUGH THE PORTAL OR APP WILL HAVE THE FEES WAIVED.

Able to haul your brush and limbs yourself? The Citizen Convenience Center has extended hours:

➡️ Saturday: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
➡️ Sunday: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
➡️ Monday: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Yes, Monday too! The Center is normally closed Mondays.)

With the significant amount of storm debris across Bloomington, curbside collection may take longer than usual. We appreciate your patience as crews work through the increased volume while continuing cleanup efforts across the city.

Regular bulk collection and Citizen Convenience Center guidelines still apply.
