Look at the TAIL , not the HORNS

There is one easy way to tell the difference between a sheep and a goat.

No , it is not the horns, many sheep ( including female sheep , have horns including the Valais Blacknose sheep )

First of all , if the sheep has fleece , like on the left then it can be easy to tell assuming the goat is not an angora goat.

LOOK at the tail of the 2 animals on the right ( top and bottom )

Top right picture is a sheep
Bottom right picture is a goat

The sheep tail will usually lay flat and down

The goat tail will usually stick out or up

Do YOU see the difference ?

Just check out the TAIL…. LOL

TRANSFORM YOUR BODY……………….

Many Valais Blacknose Breeders ask “how can I wash my sheep ? “

Can I wash them , how , with what ?

Many times washing a Valais Blacknose sheep can be daunting if they have a lot of debris in their fleece or if they have tangles in their head or legs. I think it took me 6 hours per sheep to prepare them for a show last year, this was mainly working on the head and legs and removing all the tangles. BTW we took 4 sheep, that was a lot of hours.

BUT for a quick refresher all you need to do is rinse them off with a water hose.

The top picture is the before picture ( before rinsing with cool water )
The bottom left is the after picture (after rinsing with cool water ) before the sheep dried

The bottom right picture is the sheep that was pictured above dirty NOW dry , standing next to his twin brother , which is still dirty. WOW

See what a difference just a simple rinse with water can do. Just one swipe with the hose starting at the top and moving down gently. Let them walk around in the sun, shake & drip dry.

That is all it takes to get the look below ……..

Rich and I had a great day yesterday driving down south. First stop was lunch a McCallister’s deli in Jasper , IN.

Second stop was Hoosier Embryo , they do Laparoscopic procedures on the sheep. We had such a pleasant surprise to run into a fellow valais blacknose breeder that we have known for years , Jackie Skinner with Nashville Farms , drove up from Nashville , TN bringing over 70 of her sheep. Thank you Jackie for bringing some unplanned joy to our visit . It was really nice to visit with you and it’s great to know some wonderful people in the valais community.

We had a fantastic time visiting with Jackie and the crew at Hoosier Embryo ( Ashten & Dr. Santiago )

Third stop was an ice cream shop , Zax in Huntingburg

Fourth stop , West Boggs Park , which was so beautiful , as we hung out by the lake for awhile relaxing .

Fifth & Sixth stops were a few boring errands, LOL

Last stop was the infamous local pizza joint called Pizza Pantry. Pizza Pantry goes back to my childhood , as we enjoyed many pizza’s when I was a kid. Pizza Pantry used to be in Spencer, IN . The main one now has moved to Ellettsville, IN. Guess what , the pizza still taste the same, super delicious. Of course I ran into several people there I know too from my past.
