Having maintenance trouble in your rental unit? The Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department can help investigate violations of the City’s housing standards, but there are a few important steps to take first:

1. Notify your landlord in writing. Keep a clear record of all messages, emails, or letters you send about the issue.

2. Give them a reasonable amount of time. Allow your landlord or property manager an opportunity to make the necessary repairs.

3. Submit a Rental Complaint. If the issue isn't fixed, file a complaint through the City’s uReport system. A HAND inspector will reach out to schedule an in-person home visit.

Please note: While uReport allows anonymous submissions for many city issues, rental complaints for HAND require your contact information so our inspectors can follow up and schedule an inspection. If violations are confirmed, the owner will receive an itemized repair order with a strict deadline to complete the work.

(HAND cannot resolve issues related to leases, rent, deposits, or other legal disputes.)

The best time to reach out is in the yellow—not the red.

The sooner you reach out, the more time there may be to explore your options.

Community Kitchen - Kitchen Staff
Kitchen staff are involved in a variety of tasks that include cooking, cooking prep, supervising volunteers, cleaning and interacting with patrons. Hours are 11am-645pm, 11am-3pm or 3-645pm. Weekday and Saturday shifts are available.

Please note the following update to our scheduling procedures:

Beginning Monday, August 17, 2026, Township Assistance appointments (i.e. for rent or utility assistance requests) must be scheduled in person at the Bloomington Township Trustee office (924 W. 17th St., Suite C). Applications and all other appointment information will be provided at that time.

If you have questions before scheduling an appointment, please call us at 812-336-4976.

Bloomington Township Trustee Office Hours are Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 9:00 a.m.– 6:00 p.m and Wednesday: 10:00 a.m.– 6:00 p.m.

Bloomington Township Trustee Food Pantry is open to any resident in need, with operating hours Monday - Thursday, 10:00 a.m.– 6:00 p.m.
