Thank you to everyone that participated in the March Colon Cancer 45 mile Challenge! A total of 62 people and 2 dogs participated! We had a challenge at work between the cancer services. Radiation took first place in the challenge! Congrats to them! And congrats to everyone that participated and got moving to bring awareness to colon cancer screening. Remember, 45 is the age to start screening for someone at average risk for colon cancer. Earlier screening if high risk or having symptoms. Again, thank you all for making this awesome. Looking forward to next year! 💙 Some of the participants that completed the 45 miles are pictured below.

Hello! I am the colorectal cancer nurse navigator at IU Health in Bloomington. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Cancer Society, the recommended age to begin screening for colon cancer is 45 years old for those at average risk. Colon cancer is increasingly being diagnosed in individuals under 50. Many people are not aware that 45 is the recommended age to start screening and to screen earlier if they have abnormal gastrointestinal symptoms. My goal for March is to raise awareness to highlight prevention, early detection through screening, and provide education on this disease. Since 45 is the recommended screening age, I would like to raise awareness by providing a challenge. Our cancer service team at IU Health is challenging team members to run/walk/bike 45 miles in the month of March to represent and raise awareness for 45 being the age of screening. I challenge YOU to do the same. Challenge yourself to add miles to your day for a great cause. Only count miles not included in your normal daily steps to really challenge yourself. Share your results on social media if you would like to spread awareness to your friends and family. There is a March calendar in the comments to help your personal tracking. So, I challenge you to:

March Forward for Colon Cancer!
