The Bloomington Police Department is seeking assistance from members of the public with identifying the individual in the attached photograph wearing the white shirt, black pants, and white and black shoes.

On May 24, 2026, at approximately 10:10 p.m., officers with the Bloomington Police Department responded to The Rive Bloomington, located at 1820 N Walnut Street, in reference to a report of shots fired. Upon the arrival of officers, it was determined that a large party had been taking place on the rooftop patio of the building. During the party, surveillance cameras captured video of the pictured male as he removed a handgun from his waistline and fired numerous rounds into the air in rapid succession. Partygoers began running from the area and the man was last seen on camera running from the building to the southwest. Officers did locate four spent .45 caliber shell casings at the scene, but did not locate any property damage nor any injured individuals.

Those with information about the man's identity are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Joe Henry at 812-349-3907 or at [email protected].

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a bill into law designating May 15 of each year as Peace Officer Memorial Day and the calendar week in which the day falls as Police Week. The purpose of this designation is to honor the level of bravery a career in policing demands, to recognize that each and every law enforcement professional willingly places themselves in potentially perilous or hazardous situations for the primary purpose of safeguarding life, liberty, and property of the constituents of their respective jurisdictions.

Each year during Police Week, a memorial service is held in Washington D.C. for those who have lost their lives or been severely wounded as a result of harm sustained while practicing within the scope of their duties as a law enforcement officer. There have been five line of duty deaths that have occurred in Bloomington Police Department history: Police Officer Ralph Pogue, Police Chief Samuel Cardwell, Patrolman Dale Mishler, Patrolman Jerry Green, and Captain Don Owens.

To all of our officers at the Bloomington Police Department, and all others across the nation, thank you. We are proud of the work that our officers do each and every day to ensure the safety of those that live and visit the City of Bloomington.

Yesterday, Telecommunications Supervisor Marie Murphy visited City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control for this month's edition of furever friends! She met a black cat named Salem and a hound mix dog named Buddy Boy. Salem was very keen to receive plenty of snuggles and love from Marie during their visit, and shared Marie's attention with the other cats in her enclosure. She was very sweet! Buddy Boy could barely contain his excitement and was solely interested in receiving treats. He was just the happiest guy to be enjoying the beautiful weather with us for a bit this afternoon. Buddy Boy's adoption fee has been waived, so if he caught your eye, come down to the Animal Shelter to meet him. Help us help our friends at the Animal Shelter, and consider adopting! If you are looking to adopt, consider checking out their website to view all of the adoptable animals or stop by to meet them in person.

This week, we remember and honor the law enforcement officers—here in Bloomington and across the nation—who have died in the line of duty. National Police Week, from May 10–16, and Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, are times for our community to come together in reflection and remembrance. As we do so, we invite everyone to join us in honoring those we have lost, whose dedication and sacrifice continue to inspire and uplift our city.
