MCCSC Faculty - Get Ready! 2026-2027 Grant Applications open on July 1st! Relevant links in comments.

Last year, Shannon Lehr, Media Specialist at Rogers Elementary School, received a FMCCS grant for Chomp Saws to expand the Media Center's Maker Space. Chomp Saws are great for younger learners to use to cut thicker materials like cardboard safely and independently.

The Chomp Saw and maker tools were incorporated into weekly
maker sessions, classroom extension activities, and independent student projects. Students used the materials to create story settings and props, cardboard engineering builds, collaborative
structures, animal habitats, and other science-connected models.

Mrs. Lehr noted, "As an educator, this grant reinforced how valuable maker-centered learning can be for young students. The maker space became more than a creative area; it became a place
where students practiced resilience, communication, problem-solving, and innovation in their engagement and their sense of ownership in learning."

Educators - We can't wait to see what you come up with this year!

☀️Summer Spotlight☀️

Meet Mrs. J’s cat, Finnick (also known as Grumpy Cat!) 😺

Finnick strongly believes that summer break should include sleeping in and taking lots of naps! He doesn’t understand why Mrs. J wakes up early even when school is out for the summer!

We hope everyone is enjoying some sunshine and slower mornings!

🇺🇸✨ Celebrating 250 Years of America Through Student Creativity! ✨🇺🇸

Join us in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary at the Eskenazi Museum of Art on Friday, June 26 from 2–5 PM!

Students in grades K–2 at Rogers Elementary created a collaborative no-sew quilt titled “Hope for the Future.” Each student designed an individual quilt square after exploring books about our country and the art of quilting with our library teacher, Mrs. Lehr. Together, those unique pieces became one meaningful work of art representing what our nation means to them and their hopes for the future.

This project was made possible through support from the Monroe County Community Schools Foundation, our PTO, and Teachers Warehouse.

Come enjoy an afternoon of art, games, food, crafts, music, and read alouds, and see the creativity and heart our Rockets poured into this special project! ❤️🤍💙

Happy Summer, Rogers Rockets! ☀️🚀

As you’re enjoying a well deserved break, here’s a quick reminder about the “summer slide.” When students stop reading over the summer, they can lose up to 2 months of reading growth, but the good news is it’s easy to prevent!

Just 10 to 20 minutes of reading a day can help keep skills strong and ready for the next school year. Books, comics, recipes, signs, bedtime stories, it all counts! 📚

Keep those brains growing, keep exploring, and most importantly, have a fun, safe, and relaxing summer!

Thank you for a great year!
