Have you spotted a Great Egret at the lake this summer? They are hard to miss! These large, white birds can be seen wading in shallows areas as they hunt for fish. Monika Wilk spotted this one near Pinegrove SRA on July 21.

Most of the participants in our Adopt-a-Shoreline program are individuals, but this volunteer program is open to groups too! The Friends of Lake Monroe, a local water quality organization, are long-term "adopters" of Paynetown SRA. Check out the trash they cleaned up in April, May, and July this year!

Cormorants love to perch in groups on logs and branches in shallow water. We see them often during the summer, hanging out in the backwater areas of the lake. Monika Wilk spotted this group on May 29 at Crooked Creek SRA.
