Canon on Campus

We know this is a bit overdue, but we wanted to extend our immense gratitude to every intern and student volunteer that devoted their time, energy, and resources to the Canon campaign.

It’s no secret that our campaign easily had the most interns and intern involvement in any of the congressional races this cycle, and most likely in the history of ALL congressional races in our district. That’s because you all chose to be a part of a progressive movement here in the heartland. That’s because of your hope, energy, passion, and drive to make our district, our state, our country, and our world a better place that it was yesterday.

Don’t let this loss discourage you from continuing on with politics or the pursuit of giving this district a progressive voice. There are several "Trey Hollingsworths" in congress, and it’s gonna take a hell of a lot of work from our generation to bring real equitable and progressive change to our country. Continue volunteering and letting your voice be heard. Never stop pursuing what’s right, because in the end, love conquers all.

In the spirit of the Canon campaign staff, we’d like to congratulate Liz’s team and her interns on their victory last Tuesday. We’d also encourage you all to work with Dems in Indiana and elsewhere in an effort to flip our district and Congress blue again. And if there are particular policy points that you disagree with a candidate on, let your voice be heard! Engage them and their campaign. Continue to be a part of the democratic process. The only way anything changes is with the collective choice to be active with an issue.

Lastly, we’d like to thank Cory Ray and Michael Gibbons for supporting us with our campaign experience and overall just being great friends every step of the way. We wanted to come into the office and canvass in the middle of winter because of the leadership that we had in house. You two were always helpful, insightful, friendly, and enthusiastic. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything.

We hope everyone has a great summer and comes back in the fall ready to !

Tomorrow the Canon for Indiana campaign will be hosting a FREE screening of the acclaimed documentary Love v Kentucky at the historic Buskirk-Chumley theatre in downtown Bloomington.

This film is a detailed account of the men and woman who argued for same s*x marriage in the Bluegrass state in which Indiana's very own Dan Canon is heavily featured.

Congrats to our intern of the week, Evan! From Evan: “I am dedicating my time to the Canon campaign because I believe Hoosiers deserve a congressional representative that is invested in representing the interests of ALL Hoosiers, not only the wealthy and privileged. Dan has faced struggles and challenges in his life just like the majority of 9th district residents have. Every human is entitled to healthcare, and our past and current attempts at curbing opioid abuse have failed miserably. We need change here in Indiana's 9th district, and I believe we can have that change if we mobilize and work to make our voices heard.” Give some love to Evan if you see him in the office this week!

It’s Sunday, so it’s time once again to highlight our intern of the week! This week it’s Indiana University student Morgan Owens! Morgan is a junior majoring in Political Science and a former member of IU Dems and IU Students for Bernie Sanders. She joined the campaign to “...help fight for universal healthcare and women’s rights here in Indiana and around the nation.” Thank you Morgan for being such a strong advocate for the campaign!
