The start of a new school year is just around the corner, and we’re ready to welcome and reconnect with students, faculty, staff and the whole community! Visit our table at Culturefest and make sure you stop by the Center for our Open House! Meet our staff as well as African American Arts Institute and AAADS at IU Bloomington staff and students! I loved creating this project that I have named “Collection 51” during my internship with the Black Film Center & Archive! My inspiration and creative vision for the name of this project were the 51 frames of images that I took of these beautiful Black women. Their longevity, and importance throughout history are my motivation. You’ve seen them in some of our pictures, but we’d like to pause and formerly introduce you to Avery Eichelberger and Liliana “Lili” Kuttenkuler who has joined us this summer via a partnership with the University of Missouri - Kansas City’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences! Their stay with us has been generously funded by a Mellon Grant that UMKC received to place interns and we truly appreciate this amazing opportunity! We’ve certainly been keeping Avery and Lili busy with a variety of archival and center related tasks to build their skill sets, but also have included interactive events such as the Juneteenth celebration and the Indiana Youth Film Festival on their itinerary! Being able to see the behind-the-scenes activities and production of such major events has been invaluable! They’ve already met and talked with many filmmakers, videographers, writers, directors, photographers, and more! We’re so excited for all they’ll see and be able to do throughout July! Thanks again, UMKC! Welcome to the BFCA Family (officially), Avery and Lili! ❤️❤️

IYFF 2026 - Day 2!! It has been another amazing day watching the incredible films, participating in the workshops, engaging with the panelists, and meeting so many of you! 😊 S/O to Dr. L for dropping so many gems for the attendees at his panel!! 🔥 And an extra special S/O to Deonna the founder of Weatherhouse Co and IYFF for making time to talk to each and every student that stopped her for a question, during such a busy festival!! 💯❤️‼️

The FREE raffle drawing will be tomorrow at 3:00pm! Take a picture and tag us, follow us on socials, subscribe to our newsletter, etc. to receive additional chances to be a winner! You’ll have until 2:45pm to enter at our table at the Kan-Kan Cinema. The prize? One of our six special water bottles! 😍 (You can only be one winner, so we’ll pick another if you’re selected more than once.) We’ll see y’all tomorrow!!
