MN CD2 REPUBLICANS CONDEMN STATE CHAIR’S ATTEMPT TO UNDERMINE GRASSROOTS DELEGATES AND PARTY CONSTITUTION
SHAKOPEE, MN — The Minnesota Second Congressional District (CD2) Republican Executive Committee strongly condemns the reckless remarks made yesterday by Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Alex Plechash regarding candidate endorsements.
Over the weekend, thousands of grassroots delegates from across Minnesota gathered in Duluth for the state endorsing convention. This event was the culmination of a rigorous, months-long process that began at local precinct caucuses in February. Delegates sacrificed their hard-earned money, took vital time away from their families, and committed themselves fully to the constitutional process of selecting the standard-bearers for our party.
Yesterday, Chairman Plechash issued an absurd statement suggesting that candidates who failed to win the party's nod are no longer bound by their pledge to abide by the endorsement. To unilaterally decree that the decisions of the delegates do not matter is a direct slap in the face to every grassroots activist in Minnesota. It is a betrayal of the fundamental principle of self-governance.
While CD2 recognizes the frustrations regarding the technical glitches with the electronic clickers used during the convention, the fact remains clear: the body voted to use the clickers, the body chose to move forward, and the body decided who was endorsed.
As a proud grassroots-driven congressional district in Minnesota, CD2 stands firmly with our delegates, rejects top-down dictates, and will fully abide by the endorsements chosen by the people. The MN CD2 Republicans formally call on Chairman Plechash to immediately retract his statement, apologize to the grassroots delegates of Minnesota, and respect the sovereign voice of the party.
