PUBLIC STATEMENT REGARDING FLOCK CAMERAS
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to clarify the agency’s involvement with Flock Safety cameras located within Calhoun County.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office does not own, operate, maintain, or control any Flock cameras located within Calhoun County. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office has never purchased or paid Flock Safety for the installation or operation of these cameras.
The Flock cameras currently located throughout Calhoun County, which there are six total, are owned and/or funded by the State of Florida. While the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office previously had access to these cameras for legitimate law enforcement purposes, effective today, the Sheriff’s Office will no longer utilize the Flock camera system.
Because these cameras are not owned or maintained by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, any decision regarding their continued operation or removal falls under the responsibility of the State of Florida. However, again, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office will not have access or utilize Flock cameras at all.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office recognizes and respects the importance of individual privacy and the rights of the citizens we serve. We understand that the use of technology capable of recording and documenting vehicle activity can raise legitimate questions and concerns within our community. As a law enforcement agency, we believe it is important to balance effective public safety efforts with the privacy, trust, and confidence of the citizens of Calhoun County.
Our decision to discontinue the Sheriff’s Office’s use of the Flock system reflects our commitment to transparency, accountability, and maintaining the trust of the community we serve.
