PRESS RELEASE: Arrest Made in Shooting Investigation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 16, 2026

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest following an investigation into a shooting that occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in the Blountstown area.

At approximately 10:17 p.m., deputies responded to a reported shooting at a residence on SW Owens Lane in Blountstown, Florida. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 21-year-old male had sustained a gunshot wound to the neck. Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim was airlifted.

During the initial investigation, deputies learned that the victim had fled from the residence and sought help at a neighboring home. A resident there provided assistance while emergency services were contacted. During this time, the victim reportedly identified Erik Michael Khani Dixon, 19, as the individual who shot him.

Investigators subsequently learned that Dixon and the victim had been involved in a heated verbal altercation earlier in the evening. According to statements obtained during the investigation, the argument involved threats between the two individuals.

As the investigation continued, Dixon provided investigators with multiple accounts of the incident. During a subsequent interview, Dixon admitted to shooting the victim and directed investigators to a location where he claimed to have hidden the fi***rm used in the shooting.

Investigators later located three fi***rms concealed in a wooded area near the residence. One of the fi***rms, which did not have a serial number, was found with what appeared to be blood smearing and residue. The fi***rms and other items of evidentiary value were collected as part of the investigation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Mobile Crime Laboratory responded to assist with processing the scene and collecting evidence. A projectile believed to be associated with the shooting was recovered from a couch inside the residence.

Following the investigation and review of the available evidence, Erik Michael Khani Dixon was arrested and faces the following charges:

Attempted Murder with a Fi***rm — Florida Statutes §§ 777.04(782.04(2))

Possession of a Fi***rm by a Convicted Felon — Florida Statute § 790.23(1)(b)

Dixon was on felony state probation stemming from a 2023 felony battery conviction at the time of this incident.

This remains an active investigation, and additional forensic analysis may be conducted as evidence is processed.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the assistance of the FDLE Mobile Crime Laboratory, Blountstown Police Department, and all personnel who responded to this incident.

Press Release: Blountstown Man Arrested on Narcotics Charges

October 16, 2026

On October 15, 2026, Investigator Lowery observed a silver Honda sedan being operated by Lamaris Jones near the intersection of State Road 71 North and 11th Street in Blountstown.

Investigators were aware of an active arrest warrant for Jones in Calhoun County for possession of methamphetamine. Investigator Lowery subsequently conducted a traffic stop on State Road 20 West near 16th Street.

During the stop, Investigator Lowery detected the odor of burnt ma*****na coming from inside the vehicle. After Jones exited the vehicle, a clear plastic baggie containing a large amount of suspected ma*****na was observed between the driver’s seat and center console. Jones was taken into custody without incident.

A search of Jones’s person revealed a glass smoking pipe containing residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

During a subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle, investigators located multiple plastic baggies containing a crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine, suspected ma*****na, burnt ma*****na ci******es, and suspected synthetic cannabinoids. The suspected methamphetamine was field-tested, with all samples yielding positive results. Investigators also determined that the packaging and quantities of the suspected methamphetamine were consistent with distribution.

Based on the investigation, Jones faces the following charges:

Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell — F.S.S. 893.13(1)(a)1

Possession of Ma*****na (More Than 20 Grams) — F.S.S. 893.13(6)(a)

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia — F.S.S. 893.147(1)

Jones was transported to the Calhoun County Jail without incident.

We appreciate the hard work and dedication he puts into serving the citizens of Calhoun County.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office would like to recognize Lt. Ramos and his dedicated jail staff for successfully passing three jail inspections!

Our facility passed the following inspections:

- One announced medical inspection
- One announced overall operations and security inspection
- One unannounced medical, overall operations, and security inspection

These successful inspections reflect the hard work, dedication, and commitment of Lt. Ramos and his staff to maintaining a safe, secure, and professional facility while ensuring the well-being of those in our care.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

On October 12, 2026, Deputy Baker and Brent Earnest with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a black Hyundai for an equipment violation.

During the stop, Deputy Earnest observed a bag containing a suspected green leafy substance on the passenger floorboard. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for co***ne.

The investigation resulted in the recovery of approximately 0.3 grams of co***ne and 1.6 grams of suspected cannabis. The driver, identified as Colton Matthew Corbin, was transported to the Calhoun County Jail without incident.

Corbin faces the following charges:

Possession of co***ne

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Possession of cannabis under 20 grams
