🌀 TROPICAL WEATHER UPDATE – Monday, July 20, 2026 | 7:00 AM CDT

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to monitor Tropical Depression Two over the eastern Gulf of America. While the current forecast keeps the center of the system moving generally northwest toward the northern Gulf Coast, it is important to remember that impacts are NOT confined to the forecast cone.

📍 Understanding the Forecast Cone
The NHC forecast cone only represents the probable path of the CENTER of the storm. It does not show the size of the storm or where hazardous weather will occur. Heavy rainfall, gusty winds, tornadoes, and flooding can extend well outside the cone, especially in the system’s outer rain bands. Closely monitor official forecasts and prepare for changing conditions, even if Calhoun County is outside the center track.

🌧️ Expected Impacts for Calhoun County
Based on the latest forecasts from the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service:

• Rainfall: Generally 2–4 inches are expected through the week, with isolated totals up to 6 inches possible where heavier rain bands repeatedly move across the same locations.
• Wind: Gusts of 25–40 mph are possible, with locally higher gusts in stronger rain bands.
• Flooding: Heavy downpours may lead to localized flooding of low-lying, poor-drainage, and flood-prone areas.
• Tornadoes: A few brief tornadoes may develop in the outer rain bands as the system approaches the Gulf Coast.
• Lightning: Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning will accompany stronger thunderstorms.

⚠️ Current Tropical Storm Watches
The National Hurricane Center has issued Tropical Storm Watches for portions of the Florida Panhandle and the northern Gulf Coast.

What is the difference between a Watch and a Warning?

🟡 Tropical Storm Watch
Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within the next 48 hours. Now is the time to review your plans, secure loose outdoor items, and stay informed.

🔴 Tropical Storm Warning
Tropical storm conditions are expected, generally within 36 hours or less. Protective actions should be completed immediately as hazardous weather is imminent.

Forecasts will continue to evolve over the coming days. Follow trusted sources including the National Hurricane Center, National Weather Service Tallahassee, and Calhoun County Emergency Management for the latest information.
