PURSUIT & SEARCH. Arab and Guntersville Police officers have spent much of the wee morning hours Friday searching for a suspect near the Beech Creek boat ramp. Arab officers tried to stop him on a traffic stop, according to authorities. The pursuit came down Highway 69 and onto Warrenton Road. At some point, the suspect reportedly fired at Arab officers with one shot striking a police vehicle. The subject pulled into the boat ramp, tried to drive out the back of it and became stuck. He then fled on foot. That led to officers setting up a perimeter and searching the dense woods on foot. He was not located.
UPDATE: Sherman Nicholas Pierce, 39, of Arab, has been named as a “person of interest” in the case, according to Arab Police Chief Shane Washburn. He is described as 5-10, 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information on Pierce’s whereabouts should call the Arab Police Department.
SEARCH CONTINUES. There’s a significant police presence in the Beech Creek are as of 4 p.m. Friday afternoon. Sheriff Phil Sims reports: “We have the helicopter up flying along with Arab ground units. We are doing a secondary search while the light is good.”
WARRANT OBTAINED. Although Nick Pierce remains at large, Arab Police have obtained enough evidence in the case to get a warrant for attempted murder, Chief Shane Washburn reports. Please call them at 256-586-8124 if you have information on his whereabouts.
AS OF SATURDAY afternoon, Chief Washburn reports there are no updates in the case.
