Blountville Ruritan Club

Blountville Ruritan Club Blountville Ruritan is a community service organization working to make Blountville a better place. The Blountville Ruritan Club was chartered in 1957.

Since that time we have become the premier community service organization serving Blountville, Tennessee. Blountville Ruritan annually sponsors the Independence Day and Christmas parades, recognizes outstanding citizenship among the students of Blountville Middle School, and sponsors a popular summer church softball league. The first Ruritan Club was chartered May 21, 1928, in Holland, Virginia. S

ince that first club, Ruritan has grown throughout the United States of America, and in doing so, has become "America’s Leading Community Service Organization." The name "Ruritan" was suggested by Daisy Nurney, a reporter for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot newspaper, and the club’s charter members unanimously adopted "Ruritan" as the organization’s name. The word is a combination of the Latin words for open country "ruri" and small town "tan," interpreted as pertaining to rural and small town life.

The concert will begin at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 26, in the park behind the Deery Inn (3397 Highway 126 in downtown Blountville). The Blountville Ruritan club will be offering popcorn and snacks for sale, raising funds to support the Branch House Family Justice Center.

Everyone bring your chair, come out and enjoy an old-fashioned band concert in the park!

Happy 2025 everyone!

We finally have the results of the Christmas parade float contest ready to post. We would first off like to thank all of those who participated in the parade and the many, many people who watched. It was a great parade!

Our float contest is open to non-profits who compete for three prizes including a monetary award. The Blountville Ruritan club is the judge of the entrants.

If you would like to become a member of the Blountville Ruritan club, we would like to hear from you!

Again, we really appreciate all who participated. We would like to especially thank the Sullivan Central Middle School Beta club. It was great to see you all in the parade. You had a great float!

It was great to see the Jeep club. All your vehicles were decorated and many in ways that stretched our ideas of what are Christmas decorations! There was so many of you that we were a bit overwhelmed. We apologize for that and promise to better support you in the future. Please, please keep attending!

Finally, we thank the businesses that participate regularly. McNew's Auctions has been with us for many years and always decorates well. Blountville Hardware has now been with us for a few parades and does a wonderful job decorating their floats. And I think this might have been The Stickley Farm's first appearance in a Blountville parade. They had an excellent float! If you missed their samples of freeze-dried candy, you owe it to yourself to go try some. It was quite good!
