We can't thank our members enough for everything they do around the station. Y'all are the reason this department keeps moving forward.

Today, though, we've got to give a big shout-out to one of our community members who stepped up to help us out: the real MVP, Jared! πŸ’ͺ

It's been about a month since Music Fest, and the stage sections have been sitting in one of our bays because they wouldn't fit in our conex box. We were looking at making a whole lot of trips to move them by hand.

Luckily, our members Justin and Rob knew a guy with the goods! Jared and his son took time out of their evening to bring over their tractor and help us get everything packed back in the conex. They probably saved us about 20 trips and a whole lot of sore backs.

Jared, thank you for your generosity and for donating your time to help our department. We truly appreciate you sweatin' it out with our guys. Neighbors helping neighbors is what makes our community so special.

Thank you, Jaredβ€ΌοΈπŸš¨β˜οΈ

This evening our team is working side by side loading tools, inspecting equipment, and packing hose to ensure our ladder truck is equipped with all it needs to serve the community. It takes teamwork and a detailed plan to prepare a truck.

We're putting in the work now so we're ready when our community needs us most. Ladder 6 will be in service soon! Stay tuned. πŸ’ͺπŸš’

Tanker 6-7 assisted with Firefighter I practical retesting at the Eastern Shore Regional Fire Training Center this morning. Even though the weather didn't exactly cooperate, the crew was able to provide water for the training. Shout out to everyone that helped out. Great work.

Brush Fire

Station 6 was alerted for a reported brush fire in the area of Guards Shore. Brush 6, Tanker 6-7, Engine 6-4, and Utility 6 responded to the scene. Virginia Department of Forestry 2 was also on scene.

While units were en route, Dispatch advised that the caller had submitted a video showing an approximately 20' x 30' brush fire that was rapidly spreading through the trees and marsh.

Upon arrival, Assistant Chief 6 established command and directed crews to deploy two booster lines. Once Tanker 6-7 arrived on scene, it supplied Brush 6 with water to support suppression efforts. Crews from Engine 6-4 and Utility 6 assisted by extinguishing hot spots and using forestry rakes to establish fire lines and prevent further spread.

Units remained on scene for just under an hour. After the main body of fire was extinguished, crews thoroughly soaked the surrounding area to eliminate hot spots and reduce the risk of rekindling. Once operations were complete, all Station 6 units cleared the scene and returned to service.

β€’ Public Reminder β€’

While we cannot confirm the cause of this fire, several used fireworks boxes and containers were found discarded on the beach near the incident. We ask everyone to help protect our community by refraining from using or igniting fireworks, burning debris, or setting any fires near dry marshlands or wooded areas, especially during dry conditions.

Please also remember to clean up after yourself and dispose of all trash properly. Keeping our shorelines clean and reducing potential fire hazards helps protect our community, wildlife, and natural resources.
