Today is Juneteenth, the federal holiday celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. COA offices will be open, but there will be no mail delivery, and federal government offices and banks and credit unions will be closed.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. In a world where the population of older adults is predicted to more than double by 2050 to about 2 billion, and where one study estimated 15.7% of people aged 60 years and older were subjected to some form of abuse, it's up to all of us to recognize and report elder abuse. June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, but in May we were proud to celebrate Older Americans Month with Hamilton County, Ohio - Government at the county's Healthy Aging Summit. We're grateful for the county's commitment to meeting the needs of Hamilton County older adults. This support includes funding the Senior Utility Assistance Program. On May 21, our CEO, Suzanne Burke, participated along with other local experts in the "Business of Aging" panel discussion hosted by the Cincinnati Business Courier at the Taft Law Center. Suzanne shared multiple perspectives on how the region's growing aging population impacts every level of our society - including the business community.
