Eclipse Season: Presence and Simplicity
August 19 - 25 2026
As Joan Halifax points out (something I’ve been writing about but not as eloquently) the collective angst we’re steeped in cannot and should not be approached as a personal challenge to be dealt with in the ways of contemporary, inadequate for the job, psychological practices. The grief we experience whether consciously or underneath consciousness, it’s there. It cannot be placed in such a small, enclosed box. Psychology techniques or so called spiritual approaches fail to address the essential human experience of care for and connection with each other, encompassing the deeper dimensions of being together in a world of pain. And particularly the angst for children being killed, maimed, starved and traumatized for life, something that carries into the generations to come.
Part of being fully human is experiencing the commonly shared core, the interconnection joining us all at the heart center. Absolutely nothing political about that contrary to what the fiends in charge have been drilling into the minds of the masses. It’s no longer working. The potency of universal celestial patterns elevates, supports and inspires in this phase, moving us into the great Unknown of a future, both near and far. A future where our interconnectedness is all encompassing, acknowledged, acted from in all important decisions and actions. We can’t see that future, but increasingly we feel it when entering the stillness, unwinding from the ambient influences that are not of earthly/cosmic nature.
Wed 19 First Quarter Scorpio Moon square Leo Sun perfects 7:46 pm going aimlessly void of course at that meeting. What has been developing from the eclipse last week is prominent right now, and most likely requires facing the most unsavory, hidden or shadowy aspects. The most profound insights and experiences present in relation to how committed we are to our own transformative process. Fixed water sign asks full honesty and authenticity. Wherever that’s not the case it’s a time for even more situations and out of integrity power players to be exposed. Question is how we endure even broader and deeper dives into the darkest parts of our collective and personal worlds. Despite old beliefs and major propaganda campaigns bombarding us nonstop, whether plugged in or not, we are absolutely equipped to maintain through the worst of it. In fact that’s the biggest part of the work we all have to do in this last eclipse season of an epic year.
Thurs 20 Sagittarius Moon begins with contact to Pluto elevating the darkest themes into a higher perspective ideally, but we must be willing participants not just about the daily routine without consideration of major concerns as communities of humans and as individuals. Aspects with Neptune and Uranus quickly follow by 12:33 pm adding wisdom and perhaps a shock or surprise helping to wake up the heart-mind connection even more. Mid afternoon lunar tension with Mars in emotional Cancer presses for a shift out of getting caught up in repetitive responses. That’s good work to be done in this especially rich energy field carrying us through inevitable personal and world shaking changes.
Fri 21 Venus in one of her home signs Libra opposes retrograde Saturn coloring the day with concerns about boundaries and limits, the right commitments and the wrong commitments, in relationships of all kinds. Saturn’s reference to the past may take us back to times when our sovereignty was challenged or suppressed leading to long held, even unacknowledged anger or frustration. Sagittarius Moon supports all such attempts at putting things right from the past with a clear eye to the future ideally. Valuing self and other, gaining more inner and outer harmony in the process. Love in any form, and there are so many, is afoot with quite serious intent. Part of that is revealing the aspects of love expressed by taking care of business no matter how that challenges the interaction may be. Also impacts our social world and group involvements, great day for getting to important work including any long term plans.
Meanwhile the actual condition of the world’s women becoming clearer as the collective’s more aware of what inequalities and injustices must be seriously addressed. As the patriarchal cultural overlay crumbles under its own massive weight much of what arises is beyond hard to integrate into our world view. But Saturn’s retrograde in Aries over coming months insists especially with Venus’ retrograde October into November moves from early Scorpio back into Libra, meaning right now is the beginning of a crucial stage in the personal, social and societal work we have to do.
Sat 22 Sun leaves Leo as the lion’s expressive roar recedes into the refinement of how to best implement those inspirations and urges to carry them into the world ruled by Virgo. With heart’s open ideally from fixed fire sign’s month we enter this grounding phase. It’s time for gathering the tools and techniques, ideas, allies and work habits, integrating all we’ve learned so far into our own synthesis. The rituals of life, from mundane to spiritual and everything in between, are where Virgo reigns supreme. Never underestimate the power and the glory of consistent practice of any kind says mutable earth sign with great confidence. Luna has entered Capricorn by 1:59 pm and less than 2 hours later forms a major grounding aspect with Chiron that helps brings practical matters into the realm of the sacred while Sun is so close a Grand Earth Trine is created. Powerful timing for significantly improving health and/or work routines. Today’s planetary relationships at the start of the Virgo month ensure an entire 4 weeks of rare opportunities for more essential grounding with our planet’s core, effective strategizing for the work ahead and down to earth, simple healing routines, substances and techniques.
Sun 23 Capricorn Moon endorses all the most pressing things on our plate as the sign’s ruling planet backs up in direct action oriented Aries. Along with Uranus and Jupiter all the resources we need to shift from fears and negative projections to the healing, resolving work are available. That may require some adjustments on our part to access what wasn’t in clear view before now. Evening lunar squares to Saturn and Venus provide both discipline and a certain amount of ease, 2 qualities that go together especially well this year if we stay with our best practices.
Mon 24 Lunar Eclipse on the way this week perfecting Thursday and coloring the whole week. In important ways it’s a shedding time where whatever and whoever is lost has primary significance. Making way for what needs to come in for us, free of fuss, self doubt or trying to hang on brings us to another layer of much needed wisdom. Today Capricorn Moon’s void of course into wee hours tomorrow. It’s aimless path encourages us to operate in a similar way while remaining awake and aware to the larger journey. Beware any urges to feel not enough or behind, just going at one’s own pace one step at a time.
Tues 25 Aquarius Moon has arrived fueling the winds of change in aspects with Sun, Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Mars from early til mid evening. More unexpected, surprising and/or innovative developments may occur in this eclipse charged atmosphere. Checking in frequently with emerging feelings and paying full attention to the signals coming in from others and from the personal environment crucial. This level of presence is once again, and more than ever, required to maintain stability and the capacity for optimal functioning within chaotic change. We’re all equipped, that’s why we’re here!
Here’s the full quote from Joan Halifax:
“Let us be unflinchingly clear about what the destruction of Gaza is not. It is not a private sorrow to be managed with breathing exercises. It is not a mental health crisis in the individual hearts of Palestinians. A child starving under blockade does not have an attachment disorder. A mother trying to pull her children from rubble is not deficient in resilience. This is suffering meted out, in Coates’s phrase, suffering with authors, budgets, supply chains, and votes. To psychologize it, or to spiritualize it into the general tragedy of samsara, is to become quietly complicit in it. When the word genocide must be spoken, and there are times when it must, it names precisely this: suffering that is collective in its infliction and that therefore can only be met collectively, through witness, through protest, through refusal, through solidarity, through the protection of the vulnerable, and perpetrators brought to account. There were rabbis and imams and priests and Buddhist teachers among those who said so publicly, and I was one of them, because silence, too, is a position.”
And for support with more personal grief a Native ritual, grounded, powerful and simple:
1. The ritual was called “Wičháŋpi Wóyute” — star feeding.
Lakota healers used it for those who lost loved ones or survived violence.
The person didn’t talk about the trauma.
They fed it.
They’d gather stones representing the pain, then carry them to a river and release them one by one while speaking the memory out loud to the water.
The final stone was kept as a reminder that grief was witnessed, not erased.
2. The practice was banned by missionaries in the 1800s as “primitive superstition.”
But in 2019, Johns Hopkins trauma researchers recreated it with PTSD patients.
They found the physical act of releasing objects while verbalizing trauma engages both hemispheres of the brain — something talk therapy alone doesn’t achieve.
Results after 6 sessions:
• PTSD symptom reduction: 73%
• Intrusive thoughts decreased by 81%
• Emotional regulation improved 6x faster than traditional therapy
(from Garth Drury)
Checking in with one’s natal chart can reveal so much about how to optimize present opportunities for resolutions, healing and clearer forward movement. Using 2 people’s charts for gaining more wisdom about a relationship and strategies to address any challenges goes deeper into the existing dynamics and possibilities. This is a period rich with support for gaining that clarity and making decisions about how to proceed. Private sessions available with fees ranging from $100-225 depending on type of reading, including sliding scale.
