💐 A Special Mother’s Day Gesture from Gililland First Grade 💐
On Friday after school, Gililland first grade teacher Ms. Melon and her first grade students, along with their parents, visited a local nursing home to share a very special gift—handmade Mother’s Day cards for the residents. 💌
The smiles on the residents’ faces said it all as our students delivered cards filled with love and kindness to the “grandmas” in the nursing home. One first grader shared that doing this made her feel good, reminding us all how powerful small acts of kindness can be.
We are so proud of Ms. Melon and our first graders for showing compassion, empathy, and heart. Moments like these truly reflect the spirit of Gililland—where learning goes beyond the classroom and kindness leads the way. 💙🦅

We’re so grateful to Ardent Mills for visiting Gililland Elementary! Our 3rd–5th graders loved learning how wheat is transformed into flour, and our younger students enjoyed special storytime with guest readers. Day 1 aboard the Texas Mobile STEM Lab was a success! This week our students will work together to solve engineering design challenges drawn from storybooks and real life. Activities are focusing on problem-solving, critical thinking, cooperative learning, and developing creative solutions.
2nd grade students received a problem from the story The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka. Students put on their engineering hats to help the eldest brother rebuild homes in the community. Students were challenged to build a home in 25 minutes that can withstand the wolf’s sneeze for 5 seconds. A special thanks to Gililland's PACE teacher, Ms. Barrientos for coordinating this amazing week-long event with the Texas mobile STEM Lab!

Ms. Melon's 1st grade classroom was transformed to a fun carnival this week! The transformation was possible thanks to the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD Education Foundation. 🌟 Gililland Math & Science Night Success! 🌟

A huge thank you to all the students, families, and staff who joined us for Math and Science Night! 💙 We had an incredible evening filled with hands-on learning, exploration, and fun.

A special shout-out to the EMS ISD Education Foundation for awarding the Gililland Elementary Library a grant to bring robots into our makerspace! 🤖 Students and families had a blast meeting and launching our new Dash robots for the first time.

Thank you to everyone who submitted creative name ideas for our robot friends—stay tuned, the winning names will be revealed next week! 🎉
