‘A United Nations report held that solitary confinement can amount to torture and that no stint in solitary should exceed 15 days. “Segregation, isolation, separation, cellular, lockdown, Supermax, the hole, Secure Housing Unit… whatever the name, solitary confinement should be banned by States as a punishment or extortion technique,” UN Special Rapporteur on torture Juan E. Méndez testified in 2011.’

Support prisoners and their families by signing our petition to put hygiene and food in the MARCUS catalog: https://chng.it/QgqKMxnZFD
Seems mundane and petty but it is not. This is to counter the increasing money scams facing the vulnerable behind bars.
1)In the past 20 years the DOC went from many vendors to 2 and then knocked off the second, creating a monopoly scam that angered enough to engender a successful petition drive which resulted in the reinstatement of the second vendor.
2)Now we are trying to build on that momentum to address a long standing problem in our prisons- the DOC takes most or all of the meager funds prisoners earn and they provide only the barest legally mandated essentials. With overcrowding and underfunding at historic highs, conditions have become more intolerable and the availability of “extras” becomes essential to a prisoner’s mental health.
3)Food quantities are always shrinking and the vendor that deals with both food and hygiene deals nation wide and has many monopolies and no customer service and generally bad service to all . The prison system cares not what the prisoners and their families feel but they are DEPPLY scared of your opinions.
4)Please read the petition and sign if you can- it is a complicated story payed out in eevery jail and prison system in the country- the public looks away and the corrportations have it their way - scaming and victimizing the poor and vulnerable.
Marcus is not perfect but is a WI company acutely aware and concerned with the prisoners needs. Here is the petition: https://chng.it/QgqKMxnZFD

ffup trying to come back although understanding this site is difficult. Big message is that prisoners and their families and the myriad activist groups in wisconsin are beginning to see the neccessity of coming together. Never have I seen the rhetoric against prisoners so loud and misinformed. We are an angry, tired and burned out public and NEED our scapegoats I think, and as long as we who know better do not speak up, the nays have it and the prison pipeline grows , capturing the vulnerable, the poor of every color, the non white. Generational trauma- that is what I see- and we must be part of the healing. SI FFUP has a bunch of actions going/starting, including families group, petition and grant applications filed, a teensy bite from a lawyer who will MAYBE take our class action bid. So this saturday morning I will try to get news of this posted here and in email and gradually will learn this medium. Best to you, peg

Our Story

FFUP is a prisoner advocacy and criminal justice watchdog for the state of Wisconsin, comprised entirely of volunteers. Through our direct support with incarcerated citizens, as well as through research and analysis reporting, we seek to remove the barriers (physical and intangible) between incarcerated individuals and the free world. At current, we are demanding action from the Governor and the DOC in response to the SARS-CoV-19 (COVID-19 coronavirus strain) pandemic, primarily asking for the release of eligible prisoners in order to reduce the dangerous overcrowding in our Wisconsin prison system and allow prisoners to properly defend themselves against this outbreak.

Aside from the immediate health crisis, our focus is to secure release of the over 2500 parole ready inmates called "Old Law Prisoners". All have been in for over 15 years andover1000 are over 55 . There danger to society is low to nil and their expense and health needs is causing nothing else to work, Intro:www.secondchancewi.org Other focuses are :ending long term solitary confinement, good mental health care and good programs an treatment for those coming in, and overcrowding but the king pin is parole- for with that lie- everything went corrupt and gets worse everyday..
