Name: SFC Hatfield
Component: National Guard
MOS: 91B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic
I'm SFC Nicole Hatfield. I joined partly just to serve, partly for family tradition, and partly for college money, but it turned into an amazing career opportunity. I just celebrated 20 years in the National Guard in December. I've been a 91B (formerly 63B) my entire career. I became a Federal Technician almost 13 years ago, and have served in, at least a temporary capacity, every position in an FMS (field maintenance shop). This past October, as a SFC when it's *typically* a Warrant Officer position, I became the Shop Supervisor of my own FMS. I've deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, done a 3 week training rotation at Maintenance Activity Kaiserslautern in Germany, and earned a double Associate's Degree in Automotive and Diesel Technology and a Bachelor's of Science in Specialized Studies (basically, automotive business management) through the military. I am happily married with 3 kids on a cattle/pig/chicken farm, and all of those kids happened while in the military. Actually, I may or may not have graduated ALC and improved my PT score while pregnant with the middle child. š I exclusively pumped for that child for a year. Thanks to updated regulations, I pumped and breastfed for my youngest for 16 months, and donated 936 ounces to 4 people during the formula shortage, 2 of which were Soldiers in my platoon, and was submitted for the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. In the next couple of years, my plan is to drop my Warrant Officer packet, thereby becoming the first female Maintenance Warrant Officer in my state that I'm aware of. No one seems to be able to tell me if there's been anyone before me. My dad is a retired E7 and Federal Technician, my uncle is a retired CW3 and Federal Technician, I have dozens of other family who have served or are currently serving, and every November, my dad, uncle, siblings and cousins perform the Color guard duties for the Christmas parade in the town where I was born.
