Did you know my original dream was to open a children's bookstore?

Because of online giants and superstores, that idea evolved into what you now know as The Paperback Playhouse. The indoor play space, party venue, and boutique retail shop I opened in July 2025.

While running the Playhouse has been an absolute joy this past year, I constantly felt a call toward a little more. With much of my background rooted in the non-profit sector, I knew I was still being called to serve our community in a deeper way. That calling inspired The Paperback Passion Project: a new non-profit organization designed to turn The Paperback Playhouse into a true vessel of service for our community.

The Passion Project's mission is simple: to empower families and strengthen our community through play-based learning and literacy development.

⭐ Moving forward, we will provide play sessions, literacy resources, books, and educational programming, all free of charge to underprivileged children and families in Blue Springs and our surrounding communities.

Thanks to the dedication and passion of seven incredible community members, we now have a formal Board of Directors and a strong Leadership Advisory Committee. We have officially applied for our 501(c)(3) status and will host a launch party/fundraising brunch later this summer!

To help offset our initial startup costs (such as application fees, book inventory, literacy tools, and printing), we are inviting our friends and family to invest in this mission with a monetary donation.

Juneteenth.

Today as we reflect on the history of our country let us acknowledge that freedom is both a milestone and a collective responsibility.

Together, we may celebrate the end of traditional slavery but we must also protect and continue to fight for the liberation of all.

The Paperback Playhouse strives daily to be a space where all persons are loved, respected, and included.

We will be open today from 9am - 2pm. Everyone is welcome here.

In ART class today made mixed media beachscapes and floating sail boats!

We painted with tooth brushes instead of traditional paint brushes. We crushed graham crackers and turned it into sand. We learned about creating dimension by blending colors and using different brush strokes. And we learned and used a stippling technique to create waves and foam. 🌊

We even got to test our boats in water to see if they could float. ⛵️

Overall we have a fun, messy, and interactive morning of art fun!!
