Meet the guild
The Blue Springs Twilight Stitchers Quilt Guild was established in 1996 and has had a membership of around 100 for the past eight years. The skill level of the members ranges from novice to national award winners, who love to share and learn from each other. Guild programs vary from lectures and trunk shows by well-known speakers or a school house demonstration of quilting techniqu

es and tools by guild members. The monthly newsletter keeps everyone advised of upcoming events. The guild provides a sign language interpreter at their meetings for hearing impaired members and guests. Visitors are welcome to attend two meetings each year and, by then, the guild hopes guests will like the group enough to join them as a member.

The June meeting will be here before we know it. There will be no speaker or business meeting this month because we are having our annual Ice Cream Social. If you're thinking about joining the guild, this might be a good time to visit and meet some of our members. We're a friendly, fun-loving group that loves quilting, charity work, retreats, workshops, road trips, and just plain fun! Mark June 8th on your calendar and plan to join us!

It's about that time! Our April meeting is on the 13th. We'd love to have you join us as a guest to hear and see our speaker, Kelly Ashton.

She loves to design and make quilts as shown in the books she has written and the classes she teaches. She takes complex techniques and breaks them down into manageable and easily accomplished steps. She shares her “best practices,” but knows “there are many paths to the same destination.”
Kelly has taught at national and regional shows including Houston Quilt Festival, AQS Quilt Week, and Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival as well as online classes. She will be showing us Hexagons with Movement and without Y-seams. Surely she will share
some of her other “best practices” with us while she's here.

January guild meeting is coming up!! Plan to join us on January 12th at 7:00 pm for a presentation by Patti Meier. She'll be talking about Stripology rulers and presenting a trunk show of her creations using them. They are wonderful tools and save lots of cutting time. We should learn to use their features to make the most of our time.

From the Barn's page....

We are mourning the loss of a very special guest at The Barn today.

Peggy McGuire from Independence, Missouri came for an overnight stay at The Barn with her husband in the mid-1990s. As she was checking out, she asked my dad if he had ever had any quilt guilds use The Barn for their quilt retreats. Dad replied, "No, not yet...why don't you bring us one." Little did we know how a simple conversation between Peggy and my dad would bring us the opportunity to host multiple quilt retreats over the next 30+ years.

My best estimation is Peggy stayed with us well over 50 times since her first visit. When you stay at The Barn that frequently, you're not just a guest, you become part of the family.

Godspeed Peggy! We love you and will never forget you.

Save the date! Monday, October 13th at 7:00 pm is our next monthly meeting. We'd love to see you there!

Nancy Wiliamson is our speaker and her topic is Quilt-As-You-Go.

Quilt-As-You-Go is a quilting technique where you piece and quilt small sections of a quilt simultaneously, rather than quilting the entire quilt top after it’s assembled. You can complete any size quilt on your domestic sewing machine, as it allows you to work with smaller, more manageable pieces.
Nancy is a former high school math teacher who has taught in several states as well as at a college in Sweden. She came back to Missouri where she now enjoys spending her time making quilts.
