Chandler Swope was born and raised in Welch in McDowell County, where his father served as mayor. Hard work and community service are two things that Chandler learned at an early age. For most of his life, Chandler Swope has built things and created jobs. After obtaining a degree from Ohio State University in Business Administration-Industrial Management, Chandler worked at Corte Construction for
nearly twenty years before starting his own construction company in 1983. Swope Construction has been around for over three decades. Chandler Swope managed and worked on hundreds of projects and created thousands of jobs throughout the years. He has also received numerous awards for his work in the construction industry. In addition to running a successful construction company, Chandler Swope has been very involved in the community. Chandler has been active with the Contractors Association of West Virginia, the Associated Builders and Contractors of West Virginia, and the Chamber of Commerce for both Greater Bluefield and Princeton / Mercer County. Chandler has served on the Board of Directors for the West Virginia Construction Education Trust, First Century Bank, Pocahontas Bankshares Holding Company, Bluefield Health Systems (Bluefield Regional Medical Center) and the Hugh I. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Bluefield Regional Medical Center from 2005-2009. Chandler Swope is the father of two children and proud grandfather of three grandchildren.
