Bluff City Volunteer Fire Department

🌙 While most were sleeping, Bluff City Volunteer Fire Department responded automatic aid to Piney Flats Vol. Fire Dept for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, heavy fire was visible from the home, and additional support from Avoca Fire Dept was requested to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all departments on scene, the fire was brought under control safely. A sincere thank you to the dedicated men and women who work tirelessly to keep Sullivan County safe.

The volunteers of Sullivan County are on call 24/7, ready to respond to any emergency. Please never hesitate to call, we are here to help.

Currently assisting Bristol, VA FD on a massive fire at the old VI College. Crews from Sullivan Co, Kingsport, Scott Co and Washington Co VA (sorry if I left anyone out) are assisting.

Burn permits required October 15-May 15. Fire departments in Sullivan County, with the exception of Bristol and Kingsport, do not issue these. They are issued through the Department of Agriculture. Find out more at at www.burnsafetn.org

NASHVILLE – Beginning October 15, a free burn permit from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry (TDF) is required prior to burning leaves or natural vegetation, including debris generated by Hurricane Helene.

“Due to the vast amount of woody debris from Hurricane Helene and other recent storms across the state, we expect more outdoor burning than usual this year,” State Forester Heather Slayton said. “Since escaped debris burns are the leading cause of wildfires, it is important that Tennesseans take fire safety seriously. Burn permits are required by law and the tool by which we help citizens understand when and how to burn.”
