This was posted by a moderator of the May 19, 2026 Sheriff candidate public forum. It was posted to promote a meet and greet event held prior to the 2022 Republican Primary.

This is the same organizer who chose to use a doctored image to represent me on the forum's advertisement.

Evidenced by post, it is clear that the organizer backed my opponent in his second unsuccessful bid to become Beaufort County Sheriff.

Due to the obvious bias shown when using the doctored image in the advertisement coupled with this post, I was reluctant to participate in the May 19, 2026 forum.

These shenanigans need to stop. The Beaufort County residents deserve a fair and impartial forum for the candidates to be heard.

I look forward to any and all forums or debates that are organized by the Beaufort County Republican Party.

As your elected Beaufort County Sheriff, I pledge to remain honest and transparent.

It is what this wonderful community expects and deserves.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms, grandmothers, stepmoms, aunts, sisters, Godmothers and women who hold families together through life’s biggest moments and smallest everyday sacrifices.

This week was especially meaningful for our family as we also celebrated my wife’s birthday. I honestly could not do this campaign or much of anything in life without her strength, patience, love, and the constant support of her and entire family. Campaigns ask a lot not just of candidates, but of the families standing beside them every single day.

From both boys and me- THANK YOU for being the heart of our family, the calm in the chaos, and the person always encouraging us to keep showing up for others and for this community!!! Not everyone is blessed with strong women in their corner and I never take that for granted. - Doug

Great questions and so thoughtful from so many of you I wanted to share a post with my answers. Thank you Dixie for showing interest in me and what I have to offer as a Sheriff. To start as an Investigator, I understand that solving crime requires a multi-faceted approach. Community engagement, technology, interagency cooperation, and hard work are all critical components in keeping Beaufort County safe.

As your Sheriff, I will establish a Community Engagement Team utilizing current personnel to ensure the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office remains consistently involved throughout our communities. Building strong relationships and trust with residents encourages witnesses to come forward and provide critical information that helps solve crimes and improve public safety.

I also believe that technology, including artificial intelligence, is an important tool in modern law enforcement. As your Sheriff, one of my priorities will be to continue expanding and strengthening the use of technology within the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

When I say “expand and strengthen,” consider what BCSO has already accomplished. The Sheriff’s Office is one of only a handful of agencies in South Carolina with a dedicated Forensic Laboratory that assists not only BCSO, but also other local and county law enforcement agencies. This laboratory allows for faster DNA analysis, helping investigators move cases forward more efficiently.

BCSO is also one of only a few Sheriff’s Offices with a dedicated Device Extraction Unit. Their role is to retrieve critical data from cell phones, computers, and vehicles. In today’s world, digital evidence often plays a key role in criminal investigations, and these capabilities are essential to solving crimes quickly and effectively. In addition, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office now operates more thann 38 Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) located throughout Beaufort County, capturing data on more than 6 million vehicles traveling through the county each week. This information is securely maintained for 30 days and is accessible only to authorized personnel to assist in criminal investigations and public safety efforts.

We all know that criminals often commit crimes across multiple jurisdictions. That is why, as your Sheriff, I will continue strengthening relationships not only w/ local municipal agencies such as the Bluffton Police Department, Beaufort Police Department, and Port Royal Police Department, but also with neighboring counties, state and federal agencies. The stronger our partnerships, the more effective we will be in preventing and solving crime. We accomplish this through Memorandums of Agreement with our local, state, and federal partners pursuant to S.C. Code 23-20-10 et seq.
Finally, I have had the privilege of working alongside the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office for the past twenty years, and I can attest that hard work and dedication are not lacking within this agency. As Sheriff, I will continue to lead by example and work alongside the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office every day to ensure we provide the highest level of service and protection to the citizens of Beaufort County.

As it relates to financial accountability, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office budget is already subject to a comprehensive annual audit, and every dollar is accounted for. The Sheriff’s Office budget must also be approved annually by Beaufort County Council. Any funds not spent by the Sheriff’s Office at the end of the fiscal year are returned to the Beaufort County General Fund. I encourage you, and anyone else interested, to watch, attend, or provide comments during Beaufort County Council budget workshop meetings. I believe citizens deserve to know where and how their taxpayer dollars are being spent.

My strategy is simple: strength trust, expand technology, build partnerships, and support the men and women of the sheriffs office. The tactics outlined above are how we will accomplish that mission. All that being said, I believe my twenty years of service to Beaufort County…up until the time I resigned to run for sheriff, has provided me with a unique understanding of how we can continue to expand and strengthen this agency in an effort to make BC as safe as possible. - Doug

It was a pleasure meeting Senator Lindsey Graham in Bluffton yesterday and having the opportunity to discuss the importance of supporting law enforcement and keeping our communities safe. Strong relationships at the federal, state, and local levels really matter when it comes to ensuring Beaufort County has the resources, communication, and support needed to protect the people who live, work, and raise families here.

I appreciate every leader willing to work together to support public safety and the men and women who serve our communities each day. - Doug

Rolling into the school day with community spirit!!This morning, I joined students, families, and local officers for Beaufort’s Bike Bus ride in celebration of National Bike & Roll to School Day. Seeing so many kids pedaling together through our beautiful streets was such a fun reminder of what makes Beaufort special!! The connection, community, and supporting healthy, active lifestyles! The BEST energy!

Big thanks to everyone who helped make the ride safe and memorable, especially the students who showed off some impressive bike skills along the way! 👍💪 -Doug

WOW… WHAT IS THIS?!?! I hate to disappoint everyone, but the photo being used for me on this forum graphic isn’t actually me. Quite frankly, I don’t even know who this guy is. This was supposed to be an impartial candidate forum. Apparently someone involved with organizing the forum decided to doctor a photo of me to make me look older and use a more polished photo from over a decade ago of my opponent. This is not me!!! I’ll let the voters decide what they think about that.

As for me, I still believe in real conversations, real people, and showing up in person to answer tough questions directly no filters, no fake polish, and no political theater. So if you’d like to meet the real Doug Seifert, not “AI Doug,” come see me in person at one of our upcoming meet and greets. Beaufort County deserves authenticity and transparency from the people asking to earn their trust. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon. – Doug
