On November 20, 2025, the Bluffton News-Banner reported the swearing-in ceremony of Wells County's new probation officer, Rachel Yancey. We welcome her to our office.

This week we celebrate the probation officers and their work in our community in Wells County. Vicki Cale, Stephanie Eddy, Stephen Pastore, Allison Perry, Valerie Runyon, and Jessica Nix tirelessly work with individuals to protect the community and make lives better in their roles as probation officers. If you see any of them this week, be sure you say thanks!

In honor of National Correctional Officer Week (May 5-10) we wish to remember the correctional officers who serve at the Wells County Jail. Our interactions with these officers are always positive. They humanely ensure the care of those who are incarcerated, make sure they appear before the court at appointed hearing/meeting times, collect and record invaluable information, and transport them to where they need to go during - and sometimes after - their incarceration. Theirs is difficult and necessary work. Their treatment of Wells County's inmates sets the stage for our work when they return to the community if they are placed under supervision in that very few express bitterness of their treatment while incarcerated. You are appreciated - so thank you.

Today we welcome Jordyn Shumate to the probation department team. She will be working as our new secretary alongside Victoria Baumgartner to finish reports, greet visitors to the office and help keep probation officers doing their work well. As some may know, Jan Stronczek will be retiring soon and Jordyn will be taking over her position.
