Purposeful Play is our intentional way of helping children practice character through hands-on, meaningful experiences.

This month, our focus is "amazement" and what it means to be inspired with awe and wonder. We want children to slow down, pay attention, and discover the incredible details found in the world around them.

We are emphasizing:
• Noticing the world around us
• Asking questions and learning new things
• Appreciating the details that make creation unique

One of our first activities this month was building terrariums that will become ecosystems for real-life snails. As children added soil, plants, moss, and other materials, they learned what snails need to survive and why each part of the habitat matters!

This activity encouraged children to look closely and discover how many details work together to support life. Through experiences like this, we hope to help children develop a greater sense of wonder and curiosity for the world around them!

Join us in creating a safe, consistent space where kids and teens can learn, play, and grow. We serve up to 40 children every Tuesday evening, ranging from 2 months to 16 years old.

At Helping Hands, we believe access to resources and support should never be limited by language. Every individual and family deserves to feel heard, understood, and welcomed while seeking help within our community.

To better serve those around us, our staff are trained to use translator devices that help communicate across a variety of languages, including Burmese (မြန်မာ), Haitian-Creole (Kreyòl Ayisyen), Spanish (Español), and Ukrainian (Українська). We also provide forms in multiple languages and work closely with volunteer interpreters when additional support is needed.

"I joined Helping Hands because of a desire to live out the passion God placed on my heart many years ago, to serve, support, and love families in our community. Outside of work, I love spending time with family and friends, especially when it involves sports, being outdoors, or a little shopping.

One of my favorite parts of my role is having the opportunity to network, meet new people in our community, and share the story behind Helping Hands. I am passionate about seeing families learn, grow, and thrive in every area of their lives so they can flourish within our community. God has given me a deep love and empathy for families walking difficult roads, and I feel honored to be a small piece of the larger puzzle we call Helping Hands, reaching families and living out Christ’s command to love others first.

I continue to see God working through Helping Hands in so many ways, from His provision for our building to the incredible staff He has brought together and the clients He continues to bring through our doors. It is a blessing to be part of what He is doing here."

On Sunday evening, our staff and board members gathered for our annual dinner together. It was a wonderful opportunity to share a meal, connect with one another, and celebrate all that God is doing through Helping Hands. We are grateful for the individuals who faithfully serve our organization and help make this work possible!

Did you know that Helping Hands has an Amazon Wish List? It includes items that help us meet the everyday needs of the families we serve, such as diapers, wipes, snacks for Children's Programming, car seats, and more.

Today, we received another donation from our wish list, and we're continually amazed by the generosity of our community!
