💙 OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH COLUMBIA

On behalf of Chief Babkiewicz and the men and women of the Bluffton Police Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and community of Columbia Police Officer, Chris DeLong, following his line-of-duty death.

We also lift the officer injured in today’s incident in our thoughts and prayers and wish for a full recovery.

Our hearts are with the Columbia Police Department and the entire Columbia community during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace, Officer DeLong. 💙
Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT – SIMMONSVILLE ROAD 🚨

Please be advised that Simmonsville Road northbound will be closed for the next several hours following a vehicle crash that resulted in a diesel fuel spill.

Emergency crews are on scene working to clean up the spill and make the roadway safe for travel. 🚧

👉 Please avoid the area and use an alternate route if possible. Expect delays and give emergency and cleanup crews plenty of room to work.

We appreciate your patience while crews work to get the roadway reopened safely.

If you see cones, emergency vehicles, and flashing lights… that’s your cue to slow down and give them some space. 👮‍♂️🚧

🚦 TRAFFIC SIGNAL OUT? KNOW WHAT TO DO!

Mother Nature decided to flip the switch on some of our traffic signals lately, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to forget the rules of the road!

If you approach an intersection where the traffic signal is completely out, treat it like a four-way stop:

🛑 STOP. Yes, actually stop.
👀 LOOK before proceeding.
🚗 TAKE TURNS and give other drivers their turn.
🚶 WATCH FOR pedestrians and cyclists.
🚓 YIELD TO emergency vehicles.

And please, DO NOT treat a dark traffic signal like a green light with a suggestion. 😬

Please slow down, be patient, and give everyone a little extra time to navigate intersections safely.

When the lights go out, your attention needs to turn ON. 💡🚦

What a sweet morning at Lord of Life PlayCare! We had such a wonderful time visiting with these adorable little community members as part of their Hometown Heroes & Our Community celebration.

Our officers enjoyed meeting the children, sharing a story, taking pictures, and, of course, enjoying some delicious donuts! 🍩 The smiles, excitement, and curiosity made this visit extra special.

A big thank you to Ms. Tee and everyone at Lord of Life PlayCare for inviting us to be part of your morning. We love opportunities like this to connect with our youngest residents. 💙
