🚫🔥County wide burn ban is now in effect for up to 60 days.

8/4/26: Hill County Commissioners order a 60 day burn ban

This morning in Commissioners Court the Hill County Commissioners ordered a 60 day burn ban.

The order prohibits outdoor activities that produce flames or sparks that could start a fire, including the reckless disposal of burning materials. Violations are a Class C misdemeanor and may result in a fine of up to $500.

Outdoor cooking is still allowed when:
• It is attended at all times by a responsible person
• A way to call 911 is available
• A fire extinguisher or pressurized water source is kept nearby

Welding, cutting, and grinding may continue under specific safety requirements, including:
• Winds of 20 mph or less
• A dedicated fire watch
• Access to 911
• A fire extinguisher or pressurized water source on site

The burn ban will remain in effect for up to 60 days unless it is lifted earlier by the County Judge or Commissioners Court.

Please use extreme caution and help protect our residents, firefighters, and property.

One of the questions we hear from time to time is, “Why did they have to close the entire road?” The answer is simple: to keep everyone safe.

When firefighters, EMS personnel, and law enforcement are working on a roadway, they are often just a few feet away from moving traffic. A passing vehicle traveling at highway speeds can quickly turn an emergency scene into an even bigger tragedy.

Road closures may be necessary to:
🔥 Protect firefighters and first responders working on foot.
🚑 Provide a safe area to care for injured patients.
🚗 Prevent secondary crashes caused by distracted or speeding drivers.
🚒 Allow emergency vehicles and equipment to operate safely.
⚠️ Remove hazards such as fuel spills, downed power lines, or damaged vehicles.
📋 Preserve the scene when an investigation is required.

We understand that being delayed is frustrating, especially when you’re trying to get somewhere. However, those few extra minutes could mean the difference between a responder going home safely to their family or not.

When you see emergency lights ahead:
➡️ Slow down.
➡️ Follow directions from emergency personnel.
➡️ Never drive around cones, barricades, or emergency vehicles.
➡️ Be patient—roads are reopened as soon as it is safe to do so.

Our goal is never to inconvenience anyone. Our goal is to protect lives—yours, the people involved in the emergency, and the men and women working the scene.

We just want to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make today’s fundraiser a success! Whether your support was big or small, every bit of help, donation, share, purchase, and encouragement does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.

The support from our community means more than words can express.

If you’ve ever had an interest in being a part of the fire department, stop by and see us anytime the doors are open or send us a message. And if firefighting isn’t for you — that’s perfectly okay. There is so much more to keeping a fire department operating than just fighting fires, and it truly takes all of us working together.
