***945 PM UPDATE: the Tornado Watch has been cancelled***

A Tornado Watch is in effect for central South Dakota until 11 PM MDT (12 AM CDT). This means tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds are possible in and near the watch area. Stay alert by monitoring forecasts on NOAA Weather Radio, weather.gov/unr, or local media. Keep an eye on the sky for developing storms and be ready to take shelter if a warning is issued. Afternoon update. 3/9/26

A cold front will shift into western South Dakota late this afternoon and this evening. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across western South Dakota by late afternoon. This activity will then spread east-northeast into the Slight and Enhanced Risk areas late in the day into this evening and early overnight. The main threats will be large hail, damaging winds and a tornado or two. The severe risk will diminish through the early morning hours on Monday as this activity shifts into northeast South Dakota.

And here is our SECOND SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH of the evening. This WATCH is in effect until 1 am and covers the remaining counties in the Riverfront Broadcasting Listening Area.
