Hi Everyone,

As many of you know, my brother Hobie spent more than 15 years interviewing veterans of World War II and documenting over 200 of their stories before compiling them into a manuscript he titled "The War They Won". This manuscript was completed and finalized before Hobie passed away in April 2021.

As Hobie's editor, I have taken responsibility for seeing his project through to completion. Please follow this page to show your support for the project and to receive updates on its journey toward publication.

Feel free also to share this page with anyone who might be interested so that Hobie's work can reach as many people as possible.

As we get ready for Memorial Day weekend, Boalsburg is a little more quiet than in the past. While we might not be gathering and celebrating in the same manner as we used to again this year, we are still remembering the same as we have every year. If you are able, please join us on Monday for the town's annual remembrance ceremony at the cemetery. For this weekend, in between your BBQs and gatherings, remember and share stories of those who gave all so we can live free.

The words of John McCrae, 1872โ€“1918, can help us remember, can help us heal, can help us realize that we are not in such a bad place right now. Thanks to those that went before us to fight for freedom we are able to celebrate.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Please be be to mark this date on all our calendars. The Boalsburg Fire Company here in Harris Township could really use our support after having to cancel their carnival for the second year in a row.

Today is Memorial Day in Boalsburg, a day to celebrate and remember those who gave the untilmate sacrifice for our country. While Boalsburg Village might feel empty without the Boalsburg Fire Company carnival and the Day in Town celebration, it is full of remberbance for this holiday.

Look around town, our neighbors are proudly flying their flags and houses are decorated with red white and blue bunting. Boal Ave is lined with flags and our cemetery, the bith place of Memorial Day is decorated in honor of those who proudly served. While town does seem a little empty today, our thoughts of remberance are amplified in the silence.

At the cementy, under the large tent, are flowers. Take some time to stop by and place a flower on the grave of veteran to honor their sacrifice.
Without the hassle and bustle, take a walk thru and notice the names, the dates and the families of our fallen in silence. Take the time in silence to reflect and listen for the horns of passing motorists that also honor those who lay in rest.

Later today at 5:45pm a smaller in scale, but larger in heart, walk and memorial service will be held. If you are in town and are able you may partipate on the sidelines, if not the service will be live streamed on Harris Townshipโ€™s page and recorded by C-Net for broadcast at a later date.

We are going LIVE tonight! Don't forget to tune in at 7:00pm. Have your Smores Kits ready! Look forward to seeing you all!

Thank you Scouts for your continued support of The Jared Box Project. Your boxes sure will put smiles on the faces of children in the hospital! What a great idea... a Jared Box tailgate!
Had a log vacation cabin in what, I believe, was known as Chryss or Kryss Valley, in Seven Mountain area. There was a small Texaco station on the two-lane highway coming up from Lewistown. Wonder if it's still there. The cabin was in off the road. Time line - -the 1930's
