🔥 RED FLAG WARNING TODAY 🔥

TODAY FROM 3:00 PM UNTIL 8:00 PM TONIGHT FOR LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND WINDY CONDITIONS FOR FIRE WEATHER.

* WINDS...West 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 9 percent.

IMPACTS...Any fires starts will catch and spread rapidly given the windy conditions and low humidity. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring or will occur. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Additional firefighters are on duty.

🔥 FIRE WEATHER WATCH, TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 2026🔥

TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING FOR LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND WINDY CONDITIONS FOR FIRE WEATHER.

* WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 19 percent.

IMPACTS...Any fires starts will have the potential to spread rapidly given the windy conditions and low humidity. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecasted. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

There has been multiple fires in the region over the last couple weeks. Please use extreme caution when using tools that can cause sparks or fires.

🚫🔥 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT – OPEN BURNING CLOSURE JUNE 1, 2026🔥🚫

Effective June 1, all open burning will be prohibited until further notice.

Due to increasing temperatures, forecasted high winds, and elevated wildfire activity throughout our region, conditions have become increasingly favorable for rapid fire growth and spread. Even small debris burns can quickly escape control and threaten lives, property, crops, and critical infrastructure.

We are asking all residents to do their part to reduce wildfire risk by:

✅ Discontinuing all open burning activities
✅ Properly disposing of yard debris
✅ Using extreme caution with equipment that may generate sparks
✅ Staying informed of current fire restrictions and weather conditions

Wildfire prevention starts with each of us. The actions we take today can help prevent devastating fires tomorrow.

We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to keeping our communities safe.

Permitted burning is tentatively scheduled to reopen October 1, 2026. However, that date could be extended based on fire weather conditions.

⚠️ Controlled Structure Burn Notice ⚠️

Boardman Fire Rescue District will be conducting a controlled structure burn today from approximately 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM near Shoemake and Wilson.

Residents may see periods of heavy black smoke coming from that area throughout the day. This is a planned training exercise and there is no cause for alarm.

Please use caution if traveling nearby and avoid the area if possible to allow emergency personnel to safely conduct training operations.

Today on National Firefighters Day, we pause to recognize and thank the incredible men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our communities.

To our professional and volunteer firefighters: your courage, sacrifice, and commitment do not go unnoticed. Whether you’re answering the call in the middle of the night or standing ready when disaster strikes, you are true heroes.

🔥 Training Together. Serving Together🔥

Last night, our professional and volunteer firefighters trained side-by-side in one of the most dangerous and unpredictable environments we face — flammable liquids and gas fires, also known as FLAG.

These types of incidents escalate quickly, requiring precision, coordination, and confidence under pressure. That kind of performance doesn’t happen by chance — it’s built through repetition, discipline, and high-quality training.

What makes this even more impactful is seeing career and volunteer firefighters working shoulder-to-shoulder, sharpening skills, building trust, and learning from each other. This is exactly how we strengthen our response and better serve our community.

A special thank you to Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) for providing the props, instruction, and continued support that make this level of training possible.

🚑 Honoring a Career of Service – Congratulations Delbert Turner 🚑

After nearly three decades of dedicated service to our community, Delbert “Del” Turner will retire from Boardman Fire Rescue District on March 31, 2026.

Please join us at Nookie’s in Hermiston this Friday, March 20, 2026 at 5:00 pm to celebrate his retirement!

Del made history as Boardman Fire Rescue’s first full-time paramedic, helping shape and strengthen the district’s emergency medical services from the ground up. Since 2006, he has served the people of Morrow County with professionalism, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to patient care.

Throughout his career, Del also made an incredible impact behind the scenes. He successfully secured more than $100,000 in grant funding that helped provide critical medical equipment, training aids, and the development of the district’s helipad—investments that will benefit our responders and community for years to come.

Del’s commitment to public safety spans multiple roles in our community:
• Reserve Police Officer – Boardman Police Department (1996–1999)
• Volunteer Firefighter – Boardman Rural Fire Protection District (2003–2013)
• Paramedic – Serving Morrow County since 2006

His career reflects a lifelong dedication to protecting and serving others.

On behalf of the Boardman Fire Rescue District, we thank Del for his years of leadership, service, and commitment to the citizens of our community. His legacy will continue through the programs, equipment, and people he helped develop.

Please join us in congratulating Del on his well-earned retirement and wishing him the very best in the next chapter of life.

This recognition honors the skill, teamwork, and dedication it takes to make a life-saving difference when it matters most. Your commitment to serving others and your ability to perform under pressure truly represent the best of our community.

Thank you for the incredible work you do and for making such a powerful impact. We’re proud of you!

On February 10, 2026 our crews responded to an unconscious, unresponsive female in her 60’s. Upon arrival they found the patient in cardiac arrest (no pulse and not breathing). As our crews worked to restart her heart, Life Flight was requested due to the remote location.

By the time the helicopter landed our crews were able to get pulses back and the patient was breathing on her own.

The patient was flown to a regional hospital for further treatment and care.

At approximately 6:59 am this morning Engine 81, Water Tender 81 and Chief 81 responded to a reported semi-truck fire at the I84 eastbound Rest Area.

Upon arrival Chief 81 reported a fire in the engine compartment. Engine 81 arrived at the scene and initiated fire attack and control.

The driver stated he noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment and pulled into the rest area. Cause unknown, no injuries reported.
