PUBLIC NOTICE – TRAINING DRILLS

The Boaz Police Department, in coordination with the Boaz City School System, will be conducting training drills at Boaz Middle School this morning.

The drills are expected to last approximately 3–4 hours. During this time, the public may notice a heavy police presence in and around the school.

There is no cause for alarm. The increased police activity is part of the scheduled training exercises.

These drills are an important part of our continued efforts to prepare our officers and school personnel to respond effectively in the event of an emergency.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation while these drills are being conducted.

DETOUR: Alabama Highway 205 South
to close for bridge replacement

The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin work this week to replace what’s known as the “overhead bridge” on Alabama Highway 205, according to Boaz City Council member Steven Bates.
The road is expected to be closed from around the golf course to its intersection with U.S. 431 for about 130 days.
Bates said the Alabama Highway 205 South will be closed from around the 2100 block to U.S. 431 starting Thursday or Friday. Detour signs are in place already on U.S. 431 headed into Boaz.
Bates said the Old Guntersville-Gadsden Highway will be closed as well, and drivers coming into Boaz on that roadway will be detoured onto Pleasant Hill Church Road. He said Waterline Road off U.S. 431 at Cox Gap Road will be closed, too.
Mayor Tim Walker said the project will replace the bridge and lessen a sharp curve on Alabama Highway 205 South approaching the bridge.
