At Gift of Life we believe every person battling blood cancer deserves a second chance at life and we are determined to make it happen. We are singularly passionate about engaging the public to help us get everyone involved in curing blood cancer, whether as a donor, a volunteer or a financial supporter. It all begins with one remarkable person, one life-changing swab and one huge win finding a match and a cure.

In 2023, Eden attended One Huge Night NYC and joined the Gift of Life registry.

Two years later, she answered the call to donate stem cells to a woman battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Tonight, she returned to the same gala to share her donor journey and was surprised to meet Racheal, the recipient of her donation, for the very first time. 🧡

What began with a simple cheek swab became a second chance at life.

When Mason was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, his family was forced to place their hope in a complete stranger.

That stranger was Jin.

Years after joining the registry, Jin donated marrow to help save Mason’s life.

Tonight, at One Huge Night NYC, they met for the very first time.

A moment filled with gratitude, hope, and the reminder that one person’s decision can change another person’s entire future. 🧡

Many people in the LGBTQIA+ community believe they cannot join the stem cell registry or will not be allowed to donate. This is false.

Anyone ages 18–35 and in general good health may be eligible to join the registry and potentially . More than 75 diseases, including leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell disease, and inherited immune disorders, can be cured through blood stem cell or marrow donation.

At Gift of Life Marrow Registry, every donor is evaluated using the same medical criteria, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or ethnicity.

Joining only takes a simple cheek swab, but it could mean everything to a patient searching for their . 🧡

“I’ve seen firsthand how underrepresented Asian people are in the donor registries,” Sunshine said. “It’s heartbreaking to think someone could be fighting for their life and not find a match, not because the match doesn’t exist, but because someone never joined the registry. Many of us grew up hearing cultural fears or taboos about donating, but we have the power to reshape that narrative. Saying ‘maybe I can help’ is sometimes all it takes to save a life.” 🧡

Sunshine joined the registry as a freshman at the University of South Carolina Upstate during a Welcome Week fair, not knowing that decision would one day connect her to a patient in need.

Over two years later, she was matched with a patient battling leukemia and went on to donate her stem cells at our facility in 2025.

Her story reflects why diversity in the registry matters. Patients are more likely to find a match with someone who shares their ancestry, and too many are still waiting.
